Julius Spring 2009

Written by Carl on Monday, June 30th, 2008 | 2009, Runway, Spring 2009, julius, spring

I’m so thrilled that Julius is beginning to get the recognition it deserves.  The brand had it’s first show in Paris this year.  If we lived in a post-apocalyptic world, I would be disappointed if not everyone dressed like this.  But, until we come to that point, those special individuals can adapt this style and I will give you kudos, because it is most excellent.  Julius has a fan in me.  Maybe one day, I will be able to nab a pair of their famous leggings.

Maison Martin Margiela Spring 2009

Written by Carl on Monday, June 30th, 2008 | 2009, Spring 2009, lookbooks/presentations, maison martin margiela, spring

2 parts the usual Marigela + 1 dose of glam = Maison Martin Margiela Spring 2009

It’s like your own Velvet Goldmine, but slightly less severe.  Are the sequined pants calling out to anyone’s inner rock star?  Not my style, but definitely better than those horrendous bedazzled gold pants from Dior Homme.

Bernhard Willhelm Spring 2009

Written by Carl on Monday, June 30th, 2008 | 2009, Runway, Spring 2009, bernhard willhelm, spring

Think Shakespeare.  Think medieval royalty.  Think gladiator.  Call me crazy, but I enjoy Mr. Willhelm’s crazy antics.  The quirky traits found in his socks and shoes is what draws me in and this season is no different.  If I owned those sandals pictured above, I would rock them like no tomorrow.  Fact.  If you think the Bernhard Willhelm spring collection is crazy, check out the runway video below.  Viewing it makes me uneasy…the models walked backwards.

Hermes Spring 2009

Written by Carl on Monday, June 30th, 2008 | 2009, Runway, Spring 2009, hermes, spring

I normally wouldn’t post Hermes, but I must make an exception in this case. The reasoning can be attributed to how fresh and relaxed the fits and palettes are.  It is such a fresh breath of air.

Henrik Vibskov Spring 2009

Written by Carl on Monday, June 30th, 2008 | 2009, News, Runway, Spring 2009, henrik vibskov, lookbooks/presentations, spring

Henrik Vibskov’s runway presentation has the tendency to make pieces look unwearable, when quite the opposite is true.  This season, I was obsessed with his oversized shirts and dyken shorts.  I don’t recall anything from the fall collection that caught my eye, but I will definitely have to finally buy a coat from the line.  The new cuts are fantastic and the price points so far have been reasonable.

Ann Demeulemeester Spring 2009

Written by Carl on Monday, June 30th, 2008 | 2009, Runway, Spring 2009, ann demeulemeester, spring

Ann Demeulemeester never disappoints.  When I saw her fall 2008 collection, I was a little disappointed, but it quickly grew on me.  With this collection, I am instantly in love.  It is not a departure from the usual, but is it possible that this collection is more romantic than previous collections?  Black and white is a classic and easily transferable from season to season.  These colors dominate my wardrobe and are easily interchangeable. Now, take these pieces and pair them with her talent for draping, proportions, and attention to detail.  Classic, classic…

I love Ann’s use of older men on the runway.  They make her clothes look so elegant and prove that, yes, an older gentlemen can be quite stylish.  I hope I look that good when I get older.  On another note, Ann has convinced me to finally jump on the bandwagon to what I consider man capris. She does them so masculine and stylish.  How can I resist?
