Ann Demeulemeester Spring 2009

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Ann Demeulemeester never disappoints.  When I saw her fall 2008 collection, I was a little disappointed, but it quickly grew on me.  With this collection, I am instantly in love.  It is not a departure from the usual, but is it possible that this collection is more romantic than previous collections?  Black and white is a classic and easily transferable from season to season.  These colors dominate my wardrobe and are easily interchangeable. Now, take these pieces and pair them with her talent for draping, proportions, and attention to detail.  Classic, classic…

I love Ann’s use of older men on the runway.  They make her clothes look so elegant and prove that, yes, an older gentlemen can be quite stylish.  I hope I look that good when I get older.  On another note, Ann has convinced me to finally jump on the bandwagon to what I consider man capris. She does them so masculine and stylish.  How can I resist?

Style Watch: Detailed Spring 2009

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

This upcoming spring has several fresh looks and for that I am thrilled.  I think the greatest offerings are those that utilize great attention to detail over an entire contrived look.  These pieces offer versatility and will definitely dress up my wardrobe.  I find Veronique Branquinho’s collection inspiring…from the way the shoes are laced to the cinching of the shorts in the third picture.  Here is yet another instance of shorts and leggings.  It also looks like Lanvin is going to have some sheer leggings.  I remember when people predicted an onslaught of man leggings after Marjan Pejoski featured a pair with so-called meels (man heels).  I know those of us who are fashion forward will venture into the realm of leggings, but do you think they will trickle down to mainstream fashion?  Lastly, designers are beginning to let out their silhouettes, but the skinny silhouette is not going anywhere soon.  I love the proportions in the Cerruti collection, but it is too heavy for spring.  During the winter, my favorite pairings (skinny jeans/slacks, tight fitting thin sweaters, and oversized coats) are quite similiar to this look.

Yves Saint Laurent Spring 2009

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

The last couple seasons of Yves Saint Laurent have been so good.  There is the excellent spring 2009 cruise collection and now this.  I definitely need to snag a pair of those pants.

menswear spring 2009

Pictured are some pieces that stood out to me, because of their styling.

1. LOVE the oversized tee from Vivienne Westwood and the cut of the collar and hem.
2. LOVE the layered sheer sweater and tank from Louis Vuitton.
3. LOVE the cropped trousers and styling from Junya Watanabe.  A nice alternative to suiting shorts, which can be severe.
4. LOVE the pairing of cropped pants and high socks from Jean Paul Gaultier.

Back in Business

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

The past couple days have been hectic.  I moved the blog to a new domain host and then it turns out I didn’t back up the entire month of June, so I had to copy & paste from my cache.  I also lost some comments.  Then the URL was not redirecting, but now everything is back to normal, well almost.

I lost my blogroll links and had to enter them from memory.  If I missed your link or you are new and want to be added, please leave a comment or email me at thefashi@thefashionisto.com
