Vivienne Westwood Spring 2010

It’s always quite the task to make sense of the wide and varied selection of pieces that routinely make a Vivienne Westwood collection. However, in the end, there always manages to be a point of intersection that connects various themes. This season, Westwood’s collection has been inspired by the swashbuckling epic life of pirates. Mixing in a crazy joker, Robin Hood and lost boys who never want to grow up, you are left with a tale of great adventure and intrigue unfolding before your very eyes. Stripes, both vertical and horizontal make a continuous appearance dressing everything from leggings to balloon sleeves. In regards to the collection’s pants, crotch lines are intentionally misaligned and add to the line’s chaotic vision of function’s battle with the quirky aesthetic that aims to disjar and surprise. Trousers are high waisted and a delight when paired with the collection’s signature slouchy boots that are not to be outdone by Westwood’s ingenious version of oversize anti-fit legwarmers. In the midst of Westwood’s chaos, there is stability and strength found in the collection’s coordinating pieces; whether their inner workings clash or not.
