The New York bike messenger acts as muse for the latest collection from Louis Vuitton. Taking on a venture in sportswear, designer Paul Helvers’ efforts easily fall into the category of casual chic. Paving the way for suits dressed down in a casual manner–gravitating towards open relaxed silhouettes was a sea of navy with the occasional bursts of citrus orange or yellow. Despite the collection’s clean simple nature, footwear became a main vehicle of color and luxury, boasting the loudest colors and ornate finishes–note the silver sequins. On the other hand, jewelry and bold yellow sunglasses carried the collection’s concept, becoming the bike messenger personified. Generally, Louis Vuitton’s spring 2010 collection tests the waters by challenging us to find the inspiration in everyday life. Alternatively, the collection serves as a reminder of the constant absurdity of luxury labels turning low-key, inexpensive sources of inspiration into a high cost aesthetic, deserving of aspiration, but it just happens to be the wicked world we subscribe to.
