Hedi Slimane’s tenure at Dior Homme created such a stir and changed the silhouettes in menswear so drastically, that it is difficult to shake his image from the Dior brand. However, with a confident fifth collection and outlasting a rumor fueled year about his possible replacement, Kris Van Assche seems to have persevered with his own vision for Dior Homme. Gimmicks a matter of the past, Van Assche repaints the Dior Homme man as a relaxed easygoing figure. Paying close attention to proportions, the suit’s fit is loosened without becoming baggy. Left unlined, two-button blazers mirror the collection’s effortless sheer tops and knits. Plunging v-necks are tastefully done, while several of the collection’s lapels are slightly oversized, falling in a chic manner representative of the draping Van Assche is known for doing as part of his own self-titled line. Coming into his own and presenting his best efforts for Dior Homme so far, one can only hope that Kris Van Assche continues in this vein, improving the Dior image and returning the label to its previous role at the forefront of menswear.

  1. I can see people wanting to buy this, but not to the point that as a buyer, you know your store will sell out. Sadly, it’s just a new Dior Homme appealing to a new audience.

  5. Lately, I’m developed a terrible sadness for Kris Van Assche. I don’t know why, but I just want him to be really successful. Is that weird?

  7. People have to realize that the skinny silhouette is dead. Looser yet slim cuts are now coming back in fashion. I am sick of people saying how KVA has ruined Dior. You cannot compare the Hedi era to KVA era. This collection is stunning in its own right – detail wise and fabric choice. I, for one, was getting sick of the grunge ‘rock’ look. Bring back elegance to mens fashion.
