the staff from maison martin margiela dressed in their typical white coats welcoming the guests … a giant black & white poster of a seated audience as the starting point of the collection, where graphic elements and textures give life to an almost monochromatic color palette; a large white room with a black floor in which models present the silhouettes among guests sitting at small square tables before joining them, as an extension of the set …

based on the abstraction of a black & white photography, this a/w 10-11 collection shows endless variations of printed or plain black while white and grey reveal different brightness and textures …
an x-ray of stripes, checks or dots playing with black, white and grey in positive and negative … the mix of graphic elements give subtle results with a laser perforated micro dots wool, or blatant contrast between a shiny nappa leather and a rich grey flannel … mat printed pebble-like dots or torn-paper-like stripes soften the light of black leather, metal studs, iridescent prince of wales wool, irregularly-checked silk or an embroidery of brass fastener … a wool flannel jacket in irregular grey mélange looks like a dégradé of partially corrugated metal … micro dots of shiny translucent sequins embroidered on a pair of jeans or a fronted shirt or waistcoat embroidered with leather washers on plastic pistils add texture to geometry … the collar of a tuxedo jacket and the waistband of its matching pants show a folding ribbon as sole graphic element …
the silhouette is lean yet soft … the new round shoulder jacket is as comfortable as a cardigan though looking like any sharp tailoring; it projects a different allure when chosen among the extra slim, the slim or the loose fits … natural waisted-pants and haramaki tube belts make the contour slender … jackets, sweaters, cardigans, t-shirts and scarves worn tucked into the trousers are another take on stretching the silhouette …
combining pieces from line ’10’ (the men’s collection), line ’14’ (a men’s wardrobe mixing timeless elegant, sartorial and sportswear classics), the replica capsule, line ‘0’ (the “artisanale” collection), line ‘22’ (shoes) and line ‘11’ (accessories), the a/w 10-11 collection is a very strong one …
the man himself might have now left his namesake house for new projects but the designer behind maison martin margiela men’s is for sure still doing a great job !

  5. I disagree. I think it's a very strong collection, and I love all the luxe details. whoever is designing for MMM now really kept Margiela's "Incognito" feel/identity

  8. The Zebra pants need to be put away. But the other looks were all very masculine and very cool. I can only hope other designers keep making clothes for men that "Men" can wear. great stuff
