Written by Carl on Wednesday, February 17th, 2010 | 2010, alexander mcqueen, lookbooks/presentations, spring, spring 2010, yuri pleskun

Yuri Pleskun brings his wide range of facial expressions to the spring 2010 lookbook of late designer Alexander McQueen’s McQ line. Embracing a punk outlook, the semi-fitted collection is driven by the outlandish personality found in bold patterns and arresting embellishments.

“Death must be so beautiful. To lie in the soft brown earth, with the grasses waving above one’s head, and listen to silence. To have no yesterday, and no to-morrow. To forget time, to forgive life, to be at peace.” -Oscar Wilde

Milan Fashion Week | Alexander McQueen Fall ‘10

Written by Carl on Monday, January 18th, 2010 | 2010, Douglas Jewell, Runway, alexander mcqueen, bastiaan ninaber, collin tennant, fall, fall 2010, jacob coupe, lasse pedersen, lucas mascarini, marcel castenmiller, milan fashion week, steffen weng, will defiel

After a season’s break, Alexander McQueen returns to the runway with the usual theatrics subdued. Tightly wound to create tension, the enigmatic collection sets the stage with intense camouflage, balaclavas and drastic silhouettes. Appearing as if doused in a spontaneous yet rhythmic sequence of prints, McQueen breathes life into a mysterious character that brings with him uncertainty and excitement. The results are a playful mix of unorthodox shapes that capture McQueen’s genius and imagination, while also coinciding harmoniously with the collection’s more grounded pieces. Altogether, Mcqueen’s fall outing adds a generous vitality to suiting and outerwear through prints, before progressing forward with boxy cuts, textured inserts and layered proportions.

In an editorial from January’s issue of Dazed & Confused, photographer Ben Toms and stylist Robbie Spencer turn to the talents of Jacob Coupe and Daniel Lock to model select pieces from McQ’s upcoming spring 2010 collection. Facing a punk revival, the collection takes on fashion’s iconic rebel with sharp cuts and a bold acid number.

Womenswear may be the focus of the fashion world currently, but the live format sweeping the fashion houses give us an inkling of what to expect this coming January. Partnering with Show Studio supported by IMG, Alexander McQueen will be presenting tomorrow’s collection, “Plato’s Atlantis” live from Paris. In addition to hosting dynamic footage on a special site set up by Show Studio, McQueen will be twittering behind the scenes. McQueen’s new focus on online outlets seeks to engage an international audience and share with them a unique experience that for so long has been limited to a select group of professionals. In his own words, he expressed, “Every year, buyers and the press come to see the spectacle of my show, but I want to generate something else, something for a wider audience–for people in Australia, Asia, and Middle America who don’t have a seat at the show. Really, what I’m aiming for is world domination!”
