Fall 2010 | Anntian

Written by Carl on Monday, February 22nd, 2010 | 2010, anntian, fall, fall 2010, lookbooks/presentations

Entitled “Walk the Light”, fall’s collection from Berlin-based label Anntian turns to a rustic orange to paint a portrait of a somewhat clumsy, but comforting range. Embracing a lived-in quality with great character, designers Anne Hilken and Christian Kurt delve into an endless array of prints and patterns to dress their ultra-relaxed silhouettes. Altogether casual, but distinct in its vision, the latest from Anntian delivers a smart array of both functional and stylish garments.

Sport & Street | Anntian Feature by Dale Grant

Written by Carl on Monday, November 23rd, 2009 | 2009, anntian, bodo ernle, dale grant, editorial

The whimsical patterns and prints of Berlin-based label Anntian get a fresh perspective when styled by Bodo Ernle (Nina Klein) for the latest issue of Sport & Street magazine. Featuring Michel Philippe of Viva Models photographed by Dale Grant, the spring range continues to read both creative and practical against the contrast of graffiti lined streets.

Spring 2010 | Anntian – “Phase”

Written by Carl on Friday, October 23rd, 2009 | 2009, 2010, anntian, lookbooks/presentations, spring, spring 2010

Approaching the spring season, Anntian duo Anne Hilken and Christian Kurt up the ante once more, reinterpreting their signature mix of patterns in a light easygoing collection. Balancing oversize looks with expert draping, the range takes on comfort and style in one go. Dressed in a combination of stripes and sponged prints, simple slouchy tees and trousers take a backseat to great jackets and knits. From an organic origin of creativity, Hilken and Kurt once again deliver a range that is both special and unique.

“Directives” – ANNTIAN Fall 2009

Written by Carl on Sunday, April 5th, 2009 | 2009, anntian, fall, fall 2009, lookbooks/presentations

Anne Hilken and Christian Kurt’s label Anntian has a certain type of magic that is difficult to find in most labels. Season after season, the Berlin based design duo turn out collections that exhibit a heightened sense of personality that echo the sentiments of a creative spirit. It is this creative personality embodied by the clothes that distinguishes Anntian from others. In the same vein of appreciating creativity and the individuality that it nurtures, Hilken and Kurt use their fall collection to open a dialogue about subjects of directives. The collection takes a stance against directives by engaging the arena of freedom that allows for one’s own direction. The space that allows free expression is best exhibited by the interplay of various patterns and colorways. This interplay allows for an endearing collection of color and personality. In a monochromatic sea of darkness, Anntian offers a colorful alternative this fall, while you hold the directive.

“Pottery” – ANNTIAN Spring 2009

Written by Carl on Friday, February 20th, 2009 | 2009, Spring 2009, anntian, lookbooks/presentations, spring

Anne Hilken and Christian Kurt founded Berlin based label ANNTIAN in 2005. Hilken and Kurt pride themselves on telling a story with each one of their collections. Fascinated by the materiality of clay and glaze “floating into each other,” the spring 2009 collection is representative of “Pottery.” The unique process of constructing pottery from shaping to glazing signifies Hilken and Kurt’s appreciation for details done by hand. They enjoy the “uncontrollable and highly coincidental aspects in modeling clay and in glazing sculptures—these spontaneous aesthetics that awake in the process of ‘doing.’ Here you get very close to a point where Beauty gets vivid, without a cause.” The collection, with each piece being unique, acts as a canvas capturing a desert sunset.
