Just when you think you have Carin Wester pegged, she reinvents the wheel. Sleek and unassuming, Wester’s softer side comes out to play this season. Being mindful not to create a collection that is overly feminine, Wester excels with the right balance of sensitivity and strength. Knits, tanks and tees accent the male form with strong masculine shapes, while loose trousers are a wispy spring dream. Furthermore, the simplicity and beauty of this season’s designs are highlighted by their neutral color palette. Wester’s collection beams with great confidence and personality, yet remains focused. The collection does not need exaggerated proportions or bold prints to have fun. Instead, Wester crafts a range of fearless silhouettes that are as enticing as they are refreshing. |

Carin Wester constructs her signature knitwear with great subtlety this season. Dressed in dark and earthy hues, cropped knits and shrunken trousers make for a fashionably awkward pairing that gives the collection great character. Meanwhile, slouchy cardigans and tonal animal prints provide Wester’s man more options to express a certain softness. Finally, Wester seamlessly eases into boxy outerwear, not losing the collection’s overall sense of relaxation. Playing with proportions and silhouettes, Wester once again lends menswear a gentle attribute, while maintaining a degree of accessibility.

New Webshop Launch | Carin Wester

After a slight delay, Carin Wester has launched a webshop that is fully stocked with this fall’s collection. There is a vintage section up, but no stock as if yet. We can only hope that means the eventual stock of pieces from past collections. Until then, view the shop here.
Carin Wester Fall 2009

This past January, we reviewed Carin Wester’s fall 2009 collection and now with the release of the lookbook, it is time to take another gander. After a frilly feminine spring, it was surprising to see Wester take such a dark turn with her fall collection, but under the economic climate, not so much. Somber grays, blacks and rich purples are fitting of a moody fall, but Wester softens this image with a woman’s touch. Instantly, billowing high-waist trousers create the image of a modern gentleman who can maintain his demeanor, whether in a sharp tailored blazer or oversize top and knit. Although the end result is a collection that is more masculine than usual, Wester still manages to have fun by throwing in polka dots and the occasional ruffled collar or two. Also, not to go unnoticed is this season’s model, who in addition to being styled impeccably sports painted fingernails.

Carin Wester Spring 2009

Carin Wester is a daring guy’s best friend. The effiminte spring line is breaming with oversize knits, soft colors, and a subtle yet attention grabbing floral print. If you have a soft spot for this pastel toned collection, now is not the time to hesitate. For the upcoming fall season, Wester has sold her soul to the dark side. But don’t worry, the frills were not left behind.
