Danish designer Christian Westphal will be showing his collection for the first time in Tokyo during October’s Japan Fashion Week. The upcoming collection is inspired by the German children’s book, The Shockheaded Peter. It’s far too early to give too much away, but the quirky collection does have a fun time exploring a child’s imagination, where nightmares are a reality and shapes know no bounds.
Here’s an exclusive sneak peek at Christian Westphal’s fall 2009 collection titled “Transcendent Black.” Inspired by thoughts of a rainy laidback Sunday, Westphal adds an unexpected playful element to his body of work. This element is best exemplified in the innovative pair of jeans created in Japan. They perfectly encompass the contrast of shiny and matte structures used in the monochromatic collection of black and white. The subdued color palette offers more space to focus on details without looking overworked. This results in a collection that exhibits excellent tailoring and innovative cuts, while still maintaining its wearability.
Coinciding with the new arrival of Christian Westphal’s spring 2009 collection, Forward has decided to spotlight the Danish designer. Most notable is Westphal’s efforts to modernize the suit by working with the proportion of the lapels. Lookbook images follow after the cut…
