If black is fall 2009’s inescapable trend, next season most definitely belongs to sheer fabrics. Korean designer Juun.J’s latest collection titled “Overlap” falls in line with his sheer adoring colleagues, except for the fact that he adds an iridescent quality to the mix. Luminous fabrics dress a cutting-edge collection of pre-wrinkled shorts, sharp tailored suiting and boxy outerwear. The collection’s key element is the layering of sheer materials over graphic prints, which surely makes a statement, but does not bode well for longevity. Regardless, Juun.J like many other designers fare well as they continue to captivate audiences with their innovative offerings.

Taking shape on the runway this season, Juun J showcases a more structured perspective. Blending a keen eye for details with a progressive thirst, vivid colors meet a static sea of black and gray for a dynamic presentation. Balancing wide and narrow proportions, special attention is shared between billowing sleeves and trousers, while dramatic hoods further the collection’s momentum. Altogether, Juun J transports his man to a world where he has to show a hard exterior, but beneath rests soft layers of care and thoughtfulness. From the subtle asymmetrical cut and leather insert to added length and volume, Juun J successfully bridges the gap between the accessible and the inventive.

The Trend: When I Grow Up
What: The playfulness of a kid in oversized pieces + the sophistication of a working adult. DO buy oversized sweaters, vests, button downs, waistcoats, etc. DON’T size up on your pants/trousers.
With: Keep the pants slim and the tops oversized. Play around with layers of clothing that do not usually go together (ie: button down over sweater, sweater vest over blazer). Stick with clean traditional shoes. Your look is already busy enough with the play of the proportions.
