Nom de Guerre Spring 2010 | Combat Continues

Written by Carl on Wednesday, January 20th, 2010 | 2010, abiah hostvedt, lookbooks/presentations, nom de guerre, spring, spring 2010

Nom de Guerre remains dedicated to further exploring a military motif as they move forward into the spring 2010 season. Entitled “The Combat Continues”, the tenth collection was inspired by “an examination of political oppression, rebellion and circumvention as illustrated by the colonizing of Algeria and the resulting Algerian War.” Merging the attire of civilian insurgency forces with the uniforms of the French colonial army, Nom de Guerre arrives at a hodgepodge of ideas similar to the journalistic film footage of Chris Marker. As camouflage moves to conceal functional uniform separates, desert-wear provides a soft foil that brings to surface the issue of humanity and equality. After all, “the intent of the collection is also, to highlight the significance of society–any society distinct from our own, particularly in oppression or upheaval…”

New Arrivals – Is It Fall Already? Transition

Written by Carl on Monday, July 20th, 2009 | 2009, New Arrivals, fall, hederus, nom de guerre

Spring can be pleasant, but the heat of summer can be brutal. Right now is about the time that the fall season starts looking rather nice. Enter Oki-ni with the perfect stock. The latest pieces from Hederus (pictured above) are the embodiment of flighty summer appropriate fashion, while pre-orders from Nom de Guerre’s fall collection, The Third Generation (pictured below) are accompanied by images of fallen leaves and the initial cold of winter–sounds like a dream!

“The Third Generation” – Nom de Guerre Fall 2009

Written by Carl on Sunday, March 15th, 2009 | 2009, fall, fall 2009, lookbooks/presentations, nom de guerre

The ninth collection from Nom de Guerre takes its inspiration from the Arctic region. The Northern atmosphere along with its extreme weather conditions are the perfect match for Nom de Guerre’s signature militaristic look. Creating a uniform of survival, a majority of the pieces utilize the colors olive green and khaki, while black and gray serve as bases to signify the polar night. The collection takes shape with heavy parkas, anoraks, vests, and thick knits, while Sherpa and wool bring added warmth. This season also marks Nom de Guerre’s collaboration with Wings + Horns on a selection of heavy fleece training sweatshirts. This collection is “dedicated to one who truly lives, so to no one, probably.”
