Spring 2010 | Potipoti

Written by Carl on Tuesday, November 10th, 2009 | 2009, 2010, lookbooks/presentations, potipoti, spring, spring 2010

Berlin label Potipoti turn a new page with their spring 2010 collection entitled “The Human Body River”. With a decisively younger aesthetic, the label takes an effortless approach to a range that blends preppy features with Potipoti’s usual quirk. Graphics of fish adorn tops, while a sea of blue conquers the overall collection. In the midst of slender silhouettes, the standout piece of the season is a reinterpretation of the classic polo shirt found in the form of a new knit hybrid. Despite the obvious move to lighter garments to suit the spring season, Potipoti manages to keep their charm–envisioning a carefree world with more time for just living.

“Berlin Closer” – potipoti Fall 2009

Written by Carl on Monday, March 23rd, 2009 | 2009, Runway, fall, fall 2009, lookbooks/presentations, potipoti, video

For fall 2009, Berlin label potipoti continue to charm with their graphic prints. Opting for a theme darker than their tropical inspired spring collection, designers Silvia Salvador and Nando Cornejo draw on their Berlin surroundings for the fall collection, resulting in a collection with more grit.

Feature Label: Potipot Island / Potipoti Spring 2009

Written by Carl on Tuesday, January 6th, 2009 | 2009, Feature Labels, Spring 2009, interview, potipoti, spring

Potipot is a remote island getaway located near Metro Manila. The small island was the inspiration for potipoti’s spring line. The collection captures the exoticism of the tropics. This season’s color palette is aquatic, yet the collection still remains quite graphic.  Bearing in mind that potipoti’s design duo, Silvia Salvador and Nando Cornejo have a background in Fine Arts, it is not a surprise.  The studio-label, created in 2005 combines the best of “fashion, graphic design, visual arts, and product design.” It is this sense of interrelated arts, that make potipoti so compelling as a clothing label. Instead of mere clothes, a story is sure to accompany each collection.  Nando Cornejo was gracious enough to share this season’s story.

How did your interest in fashion begin?

We actually both studied fine arts, but we have always been attracted to fashion, particularly to textile design and stamping, so we’ve been gradually taking steps to reach the current situation by designing collections every 6 months.

What is your fashion background?

We are self-taught, we like the philosophy of do it yourself. At the end of 2005, we began to exhibit our drawings in empty premises in Berlin. We held parties. People didn’t buy pictures, but they did buy skirts and shirts. That’s how it all began.

Personally, what are your own shopping habits?

We really like buy in small shops with character and we don’t like shopping malls. We usually buy through internet too.

What designers do you like?

Walter Van Beirendonck, El Delgado Buil, Henrik Vibskov, Peter Jensen, Bjork & McElligott…

Potipoti Fall 2008

Written by Carl on Friday, September 26th, 2008 | 2008, Fall 2008, fall, lookbooks/presentations, potipoti

Potipoti is the brainchild of designers Silvia Salvador and Nando Cornejo.  Both graduated with degrees in Fine Arts and worked in Madrid, Spain as art directors until their move to Berlin in 2001.  Together, they founded potipoti in 2005.  The label is dedicated to the marriage of design, graphics, and fashion.  Potipoti is manufactured in “small and reliable textile companies” in Castilla, Portugal, and Leon, Spain.

There is always a bit of a fable in potipoti’s designs. In their latest collection for Autumn Winter 08, Totem, there is a pinch of folklore and a lot of imagination. The use of graphics and the shape of garments improves in each season. They bring from icy Berlin this their fifth and most grown up to date collection, a very colorful set of designs inspired in Native Americans Totems of polichromated wood as well as on vintage wooden toys. Beige, black, navy blue and colorful prints are the signature of this collection. Cotton and mohair, silk and micro-corduroy the fabrics.

LOVE the black & white webbed pants in the first picture and will more than likely be purchasing them.
