New York Fashion Week | Spurr Fall 2010

Written by Carl on Sunday, February 14th, 2010 | 2010, Runway, alexander johansson, arthur kulkov, bastiaan ninaber, charlie westerberg, danny schwarz, fall, fall 2010, garrett neff, guy robinson, marcel castenmiller, matthew hitt, new york fashion week, ryan kennedy, spurr, tomek szczukiecki, ty akintayo, tyler riggs, vladimir ivanov, william eustace

Moving in a more fashionably versed direction, the latest collection from Spurr undergoes a downtown makeover. Hip and dangerously dark, fall’s outing proves that in addition to the dapper suit, Spurr knows how to make effortlessly cool sportswear. In the same vein, the label takes their tailored suit and turns it on its side for a hip undertaking in plaid and tweed. Ideal for the quintessential man with several occasion-driven personalities, Spurr goes the extra mile to provide a well-rounded view on what’s current in menswear.

News | Spurr–New Marketing Plan

Written by Carl on Thursday, November 5th, 2009 | 2009, News, spurr

Apparently diffusion line has become that range that cannot be spoken of by designers. The latest label to shake things up is Spurr. Beginning with their fall 2010 collection to be shown in February, Spurr will be broken into two distinctive lines that represent two price points: Spurr with sportswear (denim, t-shirts, jackets) and Simon Spurr with luxury suits, leathers and knits. Designer Simon Spurr added that “It’s very important to [them] that Spurr is not perceived as a secondary line. It’s complementary. It’s for different occasions than Simon Spurr.” This new marketing plan is part of the vision of Tommy Fazio, who recently signed on as president of Spurr. With two complementary lines, hopefully Spurr will have a better chance of being picked up by international retailers where according to Fazio, “they are looking for collections, not American jeans lines.” (WWD)

Altogether, the prize includes cash and advise from some of the fashion industry’s most prominent insiders. Ervell, Spurr and the other eight designers are featured in Vogue’s November issue. The feature covers everything from Ervell’s college days with Rodarte’s sister team to his initial brush with fashion because of college friend Humberto Leon (now of Opening Ceremony fame). On the other hand, Spurr speaks of his influences as an English designer as well as his work for Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and tenure under Hedi Slimane for YSL. (Style.com)

Spring 2010 | Spurr

Written by Carl on Friday, September 11th, 2009 | 2009, 2010, Julien Sabaud, arthur daniyarov, bastiaan ninaber, douglas neitzke, garrett neff, gerhard freidl, jeremy dufour, johannes linder, jonatan frenk, lookbooks/presentations, louis prades, new york fashion week, patrick kafka, simon nessman, spring, spring 2010, spurr, thiago santos, ty akintayo, vladimir ivanov

Surveying time with a nostalgic interest in elegance, designer Simon Spurr was drawn to the sixties as a source of inspiration for his spring collection. With great ease and finesse, Spurr did not shy away from luxury, instead embracing suiting as an integral element of fashion. Central to the collection, well-tailored suiting is the foundation that other pieces are built upon. Not afraid of color, Spurr incorporates warm yellows and corals among denim based blues for a dapper quality. Breaking up suiting for versatility and everyday wear, fitted denim makes a sound impression–particularly in white. It highlights the collection’s simple approach to style and elegance. The lines are clean, the colors diverse and the execution timeless. Spurr might have drawn from the past for inspiration, but the end result is quite current and fitting of the times.
