Quotable | Stolen Girlfriends Club

Definitely worthy of a read, Black’s most recent issue features an informal chat with Marc Moore, Luke Harwood and Dan Gosling of Stolen Girlfriends Club. The feature touches upon their beginnings, design process and future goals among many other topics. An interesting tidbit that comes from the interview is Moore relating the pressures of growing and maturing as a label:

We’ve grown a lot…Now we have an actual business on our hands which creates a lot of pressure and there is a huge pressure on you to adhere and conform and become more commercial…sell more units, you know…but the way we look at it is, we’ve got to have fun, and be passionate about what we are making, because if we are not pushing ourselves and learning new things, and doing new shit, and keeping it exciting, then we are going to stop growing. If we stop growing, then we might as well shrivel up and die.” – Marc Moore

Fall 2010 | Stolen Girlfriends Club Lookbook

Written by Carl on Tuesday, October 27th, 2009 | 2009, 2010, fall, fall 2010, lookbooks/presentations, stolen girlfriends club

We revisit the fall 2010 collection of Stolen Girlfriends Club entitled “Welcome to Nowhere” as the lookbook is finally revealed in its entirety. Fusing several aesthetics across the board, the collection was inspired by the idea of a constantly changing figure, whether it be a nomad, gypsy or vagabond. From velvet jeans to grandpa-sized knits and zipper adorned jackets, the eclectic collection has a piece for everyone. Extended review here.

Fall 2010 | Stolen Girlfriends Club

Written by Carl on Monday, October 5th, 2009 | 2009, 2010, fall, fall 2010, lookbooks/presentations, stolen girlfriends club

For the fall 2010 season, Stolen Girlfriends Club leaves behind their short-lived affair with dapper streetwear and return to an aesthetic that is more natural. Interjecting menswear with equal servings of grunge and rock, fall takes shape around simple pieces that deliver with style and substance. Ripped denim, slouchy tops and oversize knits keep the label humble, while careful proportions find a mature counterpart in well-tailored blazers. Altogether, the season finds a collection that demonstrates a progressive growth that manages to stay on point with the trends, while providing functional garments that will not be going out of style anytime soon.

Stolen Girlfriends Club Spring 2009/10

Written by Carl on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009 | 2009, 2010, lookbooks/presentations, spring, spring 2010, stolen girlfriends club

Aussie favorite Stolen Girlfriends Club is back with their eighth collection. Hillariously titled “Weapons of Mass Seduction”, the collection moves away from its recent grunge inspired look in search of a more sophisticated line. Inspired by music videos from Robert Palmer (“Simply Irresistible”) and Sebastien Tellier (“Roche”), Stolen Girlfriends Club’s designers have termed the collection as “Sexual Sportswear.” Using an eclectic mix of glamor chic and dandy prep, the diverse collection shines with several standouts. Pieces range from the sequin adorned cardigan to smart color blocked suiting pieces that exhibit not only a youthful zest, but spontaneity. As usual, Stolen Girlfriends Club turns out a charming collection with a distinct vision and appeal for the style conscious.
