Spring 2010 | Ato

Written by Carl on Thursday, November 5th, 2009 | 2009, 2010, Runway, collections, japan fashion week, spring, spring 2010

The upcoming spring season for Japanese label Ato sees the prominent influence of the biker. If leather pants were not daring enough, designer Ato Matsumoto has taken to abstract blocking, crafting them out of electric blue, fiery red and bright yellow. Accompanying his leather extravaganza are denim jeans with just the right fall and length for a somewhat fresh look. Rounding out the collection is left to sheer tops, reinterpretations on the biker jacket and surprisingly enough, quite the smart blazer.

Spring 2010 | Heath

Written by Carl on Wednesday, November 4th, 2009 | 2009, 2010, Runway, heath, japan fashion week, spring, spring 2010

Marrying a British sensibility with the quirks of the Tokyo fashion scene, Heath designer Gentaro Noda approaches the spring season with a casual take on the formalities of menswear. Barely there waistcoats are sharply cut, while trousers and shorts find themselves constructed with more of a board short flair. From there, checks and noticeable color blocking enter to dress up the collection in a fashion that is notably unique to the season.

Spring 2010 | Gut’s Dynamite Cabarets

Written by Carl on Wednesday, November 4th, 2009 | 2009, 2010, Runway, gut's dynamite cabaret, japan fashion week, spring, spring 2010

Big hair, dark makeup and oversize proportions were in full effect for the latest collection to be shown by Japanese label Gut’s Dynamite Cabarets. Designers Cabaret Aki and Jackal Kuzu turned to the simplicity of black this season to tone down their signature bold cuts and prints. From deep u-necks to revealing shirt numbers and a generous amount of sheen, the daring duo turned out another collection that delivers just the right amount of scandal and accessibility.

Spring 2010 | Dress Camp

Written by Carl on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009 | 2009, 2010, Runway, dresscamp, japan fashion week, spring, spring 2010

Directed by designer Marjan Pejoski, the latest from Japanese label Dress Camp begins with a clean canvas of black and white. Sparingly adorned with elaborate beaded prints, Pejoski’s monochromatic numbers take on the pairing of plunging necklines with narrowed silhouettes. The result is an exotic vibe that surprisingly enough finds its voice in the reinterpretation of traditional suiting.
