Details Recap | Milan Fashion Week Fall 2010

Written by Carl on Wednesday, January 20th, 2010 | 2010, fall, fall 2010, milan fashion week

Before we close the chapter on Milan Fashion Week, let’s take one more glance at some of the details that may have gone unnoticed–from Alexander McQueen’s reptile skin and Versace’s intensive fabric weaving to Roberto Cavalli’s skillful blend of vivacious patterns. If anything, Milan sets the stage for another dark fall, but one where color is brought in through the clever mixing and matching of patterns, textures and prints. In addition, silhouettes once again appear to be retracting as the model narrows with a focus on controlled proportions.

Milan Fashion Week | Z Zegna Fall 2010

Written by Carl on Tuesday, January 19th, 2010 | 2010, Douglas Jewell, Runway, adrian wlodarski, alexander johansson, arthur daniyarov, bastiaan ninaber, benoni loos, charlie france, cole mohr, fall, fall 2010, francisco lachowski, gerhard freidl, isaac carew, jeremy young, johannes linder, lasse pedersen, linus gustin, mark cox, mathias bergh, matt benstead, milan fashion week, nick rae, paul boche, philipp bierbaum, rob rae, theo hall, thomas hoefnagels, ty akintayo, william eustace, zegna

Milan Fashion Week comes to a dreary close with Z Zegna’s sterile fall outing. Somber, save for a couple brown pieces, Z Zegna’s fall 2010 collection manages to make fall 2009’s overall blackout seem colorful. The label turned to tonal panneling and interesting details to progress this season’ direction, but ultimately came up short, washing out the best attributes by failing to offset a constant visual with arresting difference.

Milan Fashion Week | Versace Fall 2010

Written by Carl on Tuesday, January 19th, 2010 | 2010, Runway, adrian wlodarski, arthur daniyarov, casey taylor, fall, fall 2010, gen huisman, jethro cave, jonas kessler, josh beech, lucas mascarini, mark cox, matvey lykov, milan fashion week, nicolas ripoll, philip huang, philipp bierbaum, simon nessman, taylor fuchs, tom nicon, tomek szczukiecki, versace

Creating fashion for a futuristic world, Versace’s fall 2010 collection rejects the classic notions of luxury. Inspired by the cyberpunk universe of sci-fi film Tron and William Gibson’s novel Neuromancer, the Versace man is transformed into an individual who rejects the establishment, instead looking to create his own path. Drawn to a predominantly black and silver color palette accented by blues and purples, form-fitting garments pave the way for Versace’s modern uniform. As the suit takes a backseat, biker jackets take the lead with a strong focus on shape and fit. Meanwhile, leather pants make a comeback as silver provides the foundation for a soft armor. Adding yet another level of detail, the color spectrum is manipulated to not only provide for fall’s signature print, but mark a new era for Versace.

Milan Fashion Week | Iceberg Fall 2010

Written by Carl on Tuesday, January 19th, 2010 | 2010, Runway, Stas Svetlichnyy, arthur kulkov, ben hill, fall, fall 2010, iceberg, marcel castenmiller, marlon teixeira, max rogers, milan fashion week, simon nessman

Lacing their laid-back signature style with a concept, Iceberg turns to the vagrant for a low-key, but stylish wardrobe update. Mixing deconstructed fabrics and muted floral prints with suiting separates that inhibit a variety of motifs, a quirky sense of chaos sets the collection apart from others.

Milan Fashion Week | D&G Fall 2010

Written by Carl on Tuesday, January 19th, 2010 | 2010, Eddie Klint, Runway, adam senn, arthur kulkov, brian davenport, d&g, evandro soldati, fall, fall 2010, garrett neff, jakob hybholt, jamie jewitt, janice fronimakis, max rogers, milan fashion week, nils butler, oscar spendrup, patrick kafka, ryan bertroche, ryan taylor, sam webb, simon nessman, terron wood, texas olsson, theo hall, tom warren, travis davenport, vladimir ivanov

With a ski pass in hand and voluminous layering at work, D&G’s models are ready to hit the slopes. Juxtaposing a formal sensibility with the casualness of winter’s outdoor sports, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana set in motion a playful season of that caters to many functions. While ski pants and jeans are loose and low-slung, knits are either fitted or chunky for use as outerwear. Meanwhile, in a typical Dolce & Gabbana fashion, evening wear makes an appearance in a striking winter white, proving that no matter the location, the D&G man is set–even if that includes a Mickey Mouse motif.
