Written by Carl on Tuesday, February 16th, 2010 | 2010, cole mohr, ethan james, fall, fall 2010, lookbooks/presentations, new york fashion week, paul boche, petrou man, robbie spencer, robbie wadge, taylor fuchs, tomek szczukiecki

Enlisting the help of stylist Robbie Spencer once more, Petrou\Man designer Nicolas Petrou revealed his second collection to date with a presentation. Inspired by the idea of nomads and their many travels, Petrou turned to suiting as the canvas of his abstract art. Representative of the journey of his nomad, Petrou weaved together an intricate mix of patterns and fabrics for a colorful venture that juxtaposes tradition with the currency of tomorrow.

New York Fashion Week | Timo Weiland Fall 2010

Written by Carl on Tuesday, February 16th, 2010 | 2010, ethan james, fall, fall 2010, jonatan frenk, lookbooks/presentations, new york fashion week, paul boche, robbie wadge, shaun haugh, taylor fuchs, timo weiland

The Age of Innocence meets Gangs of New York for the latest outing from New York-based designer Timo Weiland. Working with co-designer Alan Eckstein, Weiland turned to precise proportions and exquisite tailoring to portray their idea of dressing as an art. Using texture to their advantage, the basis of the collection centers around the grounding of the suit as casual, while sharp outerwear takes a more formal approach–cast in both wools and knits. Altogether, fall’s venture succeeds in gracing everyday wear with a touching sense of refinement.

New York Fashion Week | Odyn Vovk Fall 2010

Written by Carl on Monday, February 15th, 2010 | 2010, Runway, berthold rothas, cole mohr, ethan james, fall, fall 2010, florian pessenteiner, jonatan frenk, lyle lodwick, new york fashion week, odyn vovk, salieu jalloh, shaun haugh, thiago santos, will lewis

Chipping away at the superficial embellishments of life, fall’s collection from Odyn Vovk looks to body, mind and essence to fulfill this season’s vision. Bringing together the remains of a not to distant past, designer Austin Sherbanenko sent his men down the runway in somber layers of wool, linen and leather. A rapid succession of deconstructed separates proved to have the precision to unearth a gritty sense of refinement. Traveling the well-versed path between simple hooded sweatshirts and ready-to-layer shorts to more complicated pieces like the collection’s outerwear, Sherbanenko looked to texture and fabric for a dynamic quality. From capes and cropped denim to exposed shirt tails, the Odyn Vovk man evolves into a more complex character with a style that has gradually been worn away for a more organic finish.

New York Fashion Week | Antonio Azzuolo

Written by Carl on Sunday, February 14th, 2010 | 2010, alexandre cunha, antonio azzuolo, bastiaan ninaber, brady donnelly, ethan james, fall, fall 2010, james hampson, jonatan frenk, lookbooks/presentations, luke stevens, new york fashion week, paul boche, trent kendrick

Leaving his dandy behind, Antonio Azzuolo takes a trip west this fall. Combining quirky knits with suiting separates, Azzuolo breaks with structure and shows a more casual side for a change. Going the way of unexpected, the collection evokes a retro vibe in favor of the excitement provided by a second life and new uses. Also tipping the scales in favor of trends, leggings find their way into the collection, being paired with suiting trousers. Altogether, fall’s collection brings together an unusual grouping of aesthetics that will prove to either be a hit or miss.

New York Fashion Week | Rag & Bone Fall 2010

Written by Carl on Friday, February 12th, 2010 | 2010, Runway, aiden andrews, bastiaan ninaber, clinton weber, ethan james, fall, fall 2010, francisco lachowski, harry wakefield, isaac carew, jeremy young, lyle lodwick, marcel castenmiller, mathias bergh, new york fashion week, paul boche, pavel baranov, rag & bone, tomek szczukiecki, william eustace, yuri pleskun

As another cold day in the city left most of the audience in coats and boots, Rag & Bone designers Marcus Wainwright and David Neville sent their latest collection down the runway to the catchy mixings of Thom Yorke. As the beat throbbed at maximum volume, Rag & Bone’s men took to the runway in relaxed layers of wool and tweed that were fashion-forward, yet accessible for today’s market. Dressed in navy, burgundy, gray and forest green, the collection yielded a specific color palette, but embraced spontaneity with an onslaught of mix and match prints. Amongst camouflage, fairisyle and checks, plaid made a powerful impact, dressing elongated button-downs that doubled as personality-driven accessories. Meanwhile, leather piping and a playful use of texture gave way to one of Rag & Bone’s strongest collections to date. Altogether, crafting a unique vision for the season, Wainwright and Neville turned out a wonderful collection of dynamic separates, but also an excellent style guide with thanks to Vanessa Reid.
