Paris Fashion Week | Alexis Mabille Fall 2010

Written by Carl on Thursday, January 21st, 2010 | 2010, Runway, alexis mabille, fall, fall 2010, george barnett, gordon bothe, jeremy young, julien quévenne, lasse pedersen, nicolas ripoll, paris fashion week, vladimir ivanov

Alexis Mabille’s man is at a crossroads. On one hand, he values the classic standbys, but at the same time he is ready to accept the modern age. His attempt at blending the two elements results in Mabille’s second Parisian showing that offers both style and relative shock value. Creating an array of sophisticated looks updated with the addition of leggings, Mabille goes the extra mile to showcase what his man is wearing under all those clothes. Equipped with sock garters and suspenders for the ideal undergarment accessories, Mabille’s man is provocative, but at the surface, a representation of the modern evolution of luxury. Pushing forward, luxe fabrics still hold a certain importance, but Mabille shows a particular fashion sense that is more about adding special details to the ordinary garments that suit everyday life.

Milan Fashion Week | Dsquared² Fall 2010

Written by Carl on Tuesday, January 19th, 2010 | clinton weber, francisco lachowski, jacob coupe, julien quévenne, mathias bergh, nils butler, robert rae, vladimir ivanov, william eustace

One thing that cannot be denied is the fact that Dan and Dean Caten know how to stage a show. For their fall 2010 collection, the Dsquared² designing duo sent their models down the runway in the usual array, but covered in blood. With pants slung low and an athletic motif that included oversize jerseys, Dsquared²’s man was the epitome of glamorized rage. However, scrapes and split lips could not distract from the collection’s special appeal that happened to include sequins, leather and a daring attempt at sheer material for fall. Love it or hate it, the Caten brothers always manage to turn a head or two and this season is no different.

Milan Fashion Week | John Richmond Fall 2010

Written by Carl on Monday, January 18th, 2010 | 2010, Runway, ben hill, brian davenport, fall, fall 2010, garrett neff, gerhard freidl, james hampson, john richmond, julien quévenne, matt benstead, milan fashion week, nils lawton, stéphane olivier, terron wood, travis davenport

A byproduct of old and new ideas, the latest collection from John Richmond tests age sensibilities with garments that multigenerational. The standard suit is let out and reformed with a punk attitude, while classic staples like the trench become modern with a quilted update. Meanwhile, eveningwear is juxtaposed with casual denim and the grandpa sweater left in tact for character. A well-rounded figure, John Richmond’s man approaches the fall season with an unwavering determination to progress his style, while also paying a nod to the classics.

Winter 2009 | Matinique Blue

Written by Carl on Saturday, October 24th, 2009 | 2009, fall, fall 2009, julien quévenne, lookbooks/presentations, matinique

Playing it low-key, a very casual Matinique Blue prepares for winter with the addition of cable knits and cardigans to their line up. Rounded off with a bomber jacket, denim and khakis, the Blue label proves to be for the man that is easygoing, but still enjoys looking put together.

Winter 2009 | Matinique Black

Written by Carl on Saturday, October 24th, 2009 | 2009, fall, fall 2009, julien quévenne, lookbooks/presentations, matinique

Matinique Black transitions into the winter season with their usual sophistication and affection for formal wear. Only this time around, the collection sees a subtle urban influence that links the range more closely with its Blue counterpart. Classic suiting pieces, based in hues of black and gray are left open to the option of dressing down with the availability of modest knits, denim and utilitarian outerwear.
