New York Fashion Week | Davidelfin Fall 2010

Written by Carl on Sunday, February 21st, 2010 | 2010, Runway, bastiaan ninaber, collections, dennis johnson, fall, fall 2010, grayson vaughn, james hampson, lenz von johnston, matvey lykov, new york fashion week, pavel baranov, stan jouk, tyler riggs

Madrid-based designer David Delfin made a splash at this past New York Fashion Week with his colorful namesake label. Accenting a somber gray palette with a lively yellow, the designer had his men walking to a quirky beat of their own making. Taking on the traditional suit, Elfin looked to a form-conscious silhouette as well as interesting short combos to break up the melancholy of safe standbys. With boxy necklines and deconstructed suiting elements, Elfin delivered fine form mixed with a little humor.

New York Fashion Week | Elie Tahari Fall 2010

Written by Carl on Sunday, February 21st, 2010 | 2010, Runway, aj abualrub, alexandre cunha, armando cabral, bastiaan ninaber, collections, danny schwarz, fall, fall 2010, garrett neff, joan pedrola, lenz von johnston, new york fashion week, philip huang, reid prebenda, simon nessman, vladimir ivanov

Crafted from necessity and styled with an understated sophistication, the latest menswear collection from Elie Tahari treads a careful narrative of blacks and grays. Taking to a tonal play of geometric shapes, the range moves functional all-occasion outerwear, when it is not aggressively pursuing sleek tailored suiting. Altogether enveloping a modest sense of luxury, the Elie Tahari man balances a modern confidence with a refined affection for the classics.

New York Fashion Week | Mik Cire Fall 2010

Written by Carl on Sunday, February 21st, 2010 | 2010, Runway, Stas Svetlichnyy, arthur sales, bastiaan ninaber, berthold rothas, dennis johnson, fall, fall 2010, francisco lachowski, joan pedrola, lenz von johnston, marcel castenmiller, mark cox, mik cire, new york fashion week, roy pratt, william eustace

Reversing the spelling of his full name, designer Eric Kim moves forward with the launch of his new label Mik Cire. Formerly, the creative force behind Monarchy, Kim is branching out to explore a line that entails more than just denim and t-shirts. Hoping to create a full-range of affordable garments with a fashionable appeal, fall’s debut sees a penchant for black effortlessly tied to an accessible look–representative of a generation intrigued with the art of dressing, but ultimately with an approach that is young and current. Combining sharp outerwear with the provocativeness of street fashion, the Mik Cire’s man is off to a beat of his own with great future potential.

New York Fashion Week | Michael Kors Fall 2010

Written by Carl on Friday, February 19th, 2010 | 2010, Runway, alexandre cunha, armando cabral, danny schwarz, fall, fall 2010, garrett neff, joan pedrola, lenz von johnston, max motta, michael kors, new york fashion week, noah mills, sean opry, simon nessman, stan jouk, taylor fuchs, terron wood, william eustace

Suiting up for next season’s cold, Michael Kors no doubt put the luxury in fashion, crafting a rich collection of camel hues that placed his man at the wealthiest of ski resorts. Loosely draped with ease, wrinkled fabrics provided the collection with a casual authenticity, while functionally chic outerwear and accessories set the tone. Altogether, a smart blending of classic garments with contemporary silhouettes resulted in a collection that set Kors apart from his peers.

New York Fashion Week | Diesel Black Gold Fall/Winter 2010

Carefully navigating the fashion landscape, the latest collection from Diesel Black Gold curates a fine selection of garments that fall in line with what’s current. Appealing to a diverse audience, Diesel approaches the edgy segments with a fitted look, while looser silhouettes gear themselves to the bohemian at heart. Meanwhile, a western motif forms a middle ground as deconstruction channels an inner Gothic flair.

New York Fashion Week | Thom Browne Fall 2010

Written by Carl on Monday, February 15th, 2010 | 2010, Runway, albert krarup, alexander johansson, alexandre cunha, bastiaan ninaber, cole mohr, fall, fall 2010, guy robinson, jakob hybholt, jeremy young, joan pedrola, lenz von johnston, mark cox, max rogers, new york fashion week, patrick kafka, ryan kennedy, ryan koning, simon nessman, stéphane olivier, thom browne, travis davenport

Undeniably one of menswear’s most rebellious designers, Thom Browne looks to old New York as his inspiration for fall’s collection. Letting out his shrunken silhouette, the outlandish designer took to exaggerated proportions to convey an overindulgent sense of luxury. With fur spilling out of the unlikeliest places, Browne turned to outerwear as a clear component of the collection’s worth, while elongated knits and tops made a wild splash against Browne’s impeccably tailored suiting. Whether his proportions are large or small, fall’s outing reaffirms Browne’s unwillingness to compromise his vision to the whims of the times.
