New York Fashion Week | Odyn Vovk Fall 2010

Written by Carl on Monday, February 15th, 2010 | 2010, Runway, berthold rothas, cole mohr, ethan james, fall, fall 2010, florian pessenteiner, jonatan frenk, lyle lodwick, new york fashion week, odyn vovk, salieu jalloh, shaun haugh, thiago santos, will lewis

Chipping away at the superficial embellishments of life, fall’s collection from Odyn Vovk looks to body, mind and essence to fulfill this season’s vision. Bringing together the remains of a not to distant past, designer Austin Sherbanenko sent his men down the runway in somber layers of wool, linen and leather. A rapid succession of deconstructed separates proved to have the precision to unearth a gritty sense of refinement. Traveling the well-versed path between simple hooded sweatshirts and ready-to-layer shorts to more complicated pieces like the collection’s outerwear, Sherbanenko looked to texture and fabric for a dynamic quality. From capes and cropped denim to exposed shirt tails, the Odyn Vovk man evolves into a more complex character with a style that has gradually been worn away for a more organic finish.

New York Fashion Week | Y-3 Fall 2010

Written by Carl on Monday, February 15th, 2010 | 2010, Runway, alexander johansson, bastiaan ninaber, dennis johnson, fall, fall 2010, francisco lachowski, luis borges, matvey lykov, new york fashion week, reid prebenda, ryan koning, salieu jalloh, taylor fuchs, thiago santos, tomek szczukiecki, trent kendrick, y3

The downsides of love may have been Yohji Yamamoto’s inspiration for Y-3’s latest outing, but romance was to be found in the sheer movement and drape of his designs. Geared as always to the athletic minded and style aficionado at heart, Yamamoto turned out a dark collection of billowing tops, capes and bottoms that took his vision for Adidas to the next level. Infusing sportswear with a tongue-in-cheek formality, Yamamoto delivered a great variety of lively pieces that were not complete without his signature oversize fit.

Spring 2010 | Telfar

Written by Carl on Sunday, September 20th, 2009 | 2009, 2010, abiah hostvedt, allen roth, berthold rothas, dan felton, lookbooks/presentations, salieu jalloh, spring, spring 2010, telfar, thiago santos, ty akintayo

Telfar Clemens takes his label in a new direction for the spring season. Less concerned with function and more so focused on sustainability and versatility, Clemens offers a size-less collection entitled “Life Size”. Using only organic and recycled materials, the collection embraces unisex possibilities with garments that can be taken in for a small or expanded to an extra large with the pull of a drawstring. Hand dyed in earth tones, Clemens’ humble collection takes the idea of rags and transforms it into a laid-back range that is fashion-forward. Loosely fitted sarongs, shorts and wraparound pants are met with equally chic tanks, tops and open jackets. With his latest range, Clemens does more than create a collection, he fashions a simple easygoing lifestyle.

Spring 2010 | Johannes Faktotum

Written by Carl on Friday, September 18th, 2009 | 2009, 2010, johannes faktotum, new york fashion week, salieu jalloh, spring, spring 2010

Designer Johanna Bloomfield proves that bright colors are not necessary to liven a season. Avoiding an all-to prominent black, the New York-based designer has fashioned her latest collection of gray and black after utilitarian simplicity. The Johannes Faktotum man appears flawless in a full-range of heat defying pieces. T-shirt cut knits, barely there tanks, translucent shorts and outerwear give the collection a distinctive character. Bloomfield effortlessly eases in and out of basics like the tee and modern reinterpretations of pieces like the raincoat, all while maintaining a steadfast focus. An ethereal vision, the collection manages to be fashion-forward, while also having a commercial appeal. Positively refreshing, the range has a piece for everyone, whether it is the everyday guy or handbag toting style aficionado.
