Although most collections make their debut on the runway, there is something about a lookbook done right that adds a certain appeal to the clothing. In lookbooks, there tends to be a special relationship between the model, garments, styling, set and above all designer’s vision. This relationship may get lost on the runway, but here in pictures, they help create a lifestyle that adheres to a conceptualized aesthetic. After the jump are spring 2009’s standouts.
Featured in more than a handful of campaigns for 2009, Jon Kortajarena became the quientessential staple without wearing out his welcome. Whether accompanied by a leading lady or left to his own devices, Jon turned out several memorable campaigns working with everyone from Diesel and Brian Atwood to Tom Ford. Transitioning from model to actor, next up for Jon is a role in Ford’s debut film A Single Man.
Beginning to infiltrate the states in stores like 80s Purple and The Closet is New Zealand brand Huffer. Cheeky, young, and laid-back, the label offers no pretense or gimmicks–they just want to make comfortable clothes that are accessible. Denmark based POP cph is back with another event-ready collection. Playing it cool and easy, their summer collection is perfect for a day at the beach or for later when you have that swanky party uptown to attend. The micro bow tie is optional of course, but what a statement piece.
