Fall 2008 Trends: Pop is not a Trend

Written by Carl on Saturday, August 23rd, 2008 | 2008, Fall 2008, Runway, Theme Weeks, annhagen, fall forward, lookbooks/presentations, louis vuitton, marc jacobs, phillip lim, raf simons, rag & bone, rag and bone, robert geller, style watch, tim hamilton, yves saint laurent

Top Row (left to right): Marc Jacobs, Raf Simons, Tim Hamilton, Phillip Lim, Rag & Bone
Bottom Row (left to right): Louis Vuitton, Annhagen, Robert Geller, Yves Saint Laurent

The Trend: Pop is not a Trend

What: This season, ditch the neon colors and grab the underrated: mustard yellows, purples, greens and blues.  These colors are available in everything from outerwear to pants.

With: Wear one key “pop” color; two if you’re bold.  Highlight them by wearing various shades of black and gray.  Also try layering different materials for depth and interest.

Fall 2008 Trends: When I Grow Up

Written by Carl on Thursday, August 21st, 2008 | 2008, Claude Grant, Fall 2008, Theme Weeks, ann demeulemeester, carolyn massey, duckie brown, fall, fall forward, filippa k, juun.j, marc by marc jacobs, perry ellis signature, style watch

Top Row (left to right): Duckie Brown, Claude Grant, Perry Ellis Signature, Carolyn Massey, Filippa K
Bottom Row (left to right): Mjolk, Ann Demeulemeester, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Juun.J

The Trend: When I Grow Up

What: The playfulness of a kid in oversized pieces + the sophistication of a working adult.  DO buy oversized sweaters, vests, button downs, waistcoats, etc.  DON’T size up on your pants/trousers.

With: Keep the pants slim and the tops oversized.  Play around with layers of clothing that do not usually go together (ie: button down over sweater, sweater vest over blazer). Stick with clean traditional shoes.  Your look is already busy enough with the play of the proportions.

Fall 2008 Trends: Hunting Games

Written by Carl on Wednesday, August 20th, 2008 | 2008, Fall 2008, Theme Weeks, adam kimmel, alexander mcqueen, attachment, dresscamp, fall, fall forward, maharishi, number (n)ine, style watch, y3, yohji yamamoto, yves saint laurent

Top Row (left to right): Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, Dresscamp, Number (N)ine, Y3

Bottom Row (left to right): Attachment, Maharishi, Adam Kimmel, Yohji Yamamoto

The Trend: Hunting Games

What: Fitted and relaxed plaid outerwear with a burst of color or dulled down.  Unique flannel that stands out from the crowd and utility inspired (ie. Adam Kimmel) pieces.  Earth toned neutrals for bottoms and boots ranging from chukkas to lace ups and pull-on.

With: Play with pieces, mixing the hyper masculine with softer fashion forward pieces.  Stick to a color palette of greens, deep blues, dark grays, and earthy browns.

Fall 2008 Trends: Inside These Pants

Written by Carl on Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 | 2008, Fall 2008, Runway, Theme Weeks, dolce & gabbana, endovanera, fall, fall forward, ktz, lookbooks/presentations, marc by marc jacobs, perry ellis signature, rickard lindqvist, robert geller, style watch, unconditional, yves saint laurent

Top Row (left to right): Endovanera, Yves Saint Laurent, Dolce and Gabbana, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Perry Ellis Signature

Bottom Row (left to right): Unconditional, KTZ, Robert Geller, Richard Lindqvist

The Trend: Inside These Pants

What: Switch out the jeans and traditional trousers.  This season is all about mixing it up.  With a new collision of materials, silhouettes, and a splash of color, nothing is off limits.  Be on the look out for tapered sweats, excessive pleating, and relaxed loose fits.

With: Focus on your overall silhouette.  If going with a super relaxed bottom, bring the top half in and make it slim.  If you’re working with tapered bottoms, the options are endless depending on your individual style.  Keep it slim, but not as narrow as your bottom or wear exaggerated portions; skinny bottom, oversized top.
