Moodscape–Daniele Alessandrini approaches the spring 2012 season with a clear mind focused on energizing contemporary menswear with the joyous use of color and sporadic prints. Color blocking and setting complementary tones to the same beat, a lineup of suiting separates, knits and trousers benefit from an upbeat spirit. Adorned with stripes, floral prints and stars, the collection exudes a boyish quality for a fun spring that also manages to be practical.

Greaser Milanese–While it is apparent the designers behind Moschino were inspired by the Elvis and Fonzie-type characters of the fifties, there were several ambiguous elements at play that gave the collection a modern appeal. Two jackets, one in baby blue suede and the other in black leather, mirrored the timeless jean jacket of the same era. On the other hand, the quintessential Moschino shirt fueled spring’s collection with playing card motifs. Another standout element was none other than the printed trouser, a trend that has been strong this season, seen here both casually and in sartorial splendor – which is where the garments really shine. Rounding out a charming show, suits were dressed in gold and adorned with flashing lights, making for a showstopper of looks destined for stars, no matter how large or small.

The Boys Are Back–Following a coy fall season, Dan and Dean Caten of Dsquared² return to the catwalk with swimwear and other goods on display. Ready for sun and bronzed status, the boys of Dsquared² boast an eclectic style that makes for both formal and naughty forays. On one end of the spectrum, the Catens offer tailored double breasted jackets, coupled with tapered trousers, while on the other side, a rebellious youth is made visible. From a wonderful denim and leather jacket to a tiger motif, the collection finds its stride in a fashionable vehicle that does take itself too seriously and in that the joy comes to the surface for a fantastic spring season.

Armani Means Business–Focus was at the core of Giorgio Armani’s showing for the spring 2012 season. Setting the stage for one uniform, suiting was dissected for a wardrobe of varied proportions. From fitted jackets and dropped crotch lines to billowing silhouettes, the Armani man was afforded a relaxed pacing. Pairing down light silk, linen and wool with casual sneakers, the collection also embraced a graphic nature, grounded in navy and black. Dressing a comfortable spring lineup in gradients, stripes, checks and other eye catching prints, Giorgio Armani achieved a sophisticated feat.
