Z of Elegance–The washes of blue drifted out at Z Zegna in shades of navy, baby blue and slowly faded into a sea of white, cleansing the palette for what was yet to come. Gorgeous colors of mustard yellow and earthy brown took over the fine selection of tailored blazers, lightweight knitwear and oversized outwears. Continuing a popular trend this season in Milan, the star of the show was the carefree silhouette of loose-fitting trousers, made even more elegant paired with the luxe inclusion of silk tuxedo jackets.

Man About Italy–The Iceberg gentleman never strays far away from the sartorial elegance of sportswear and this season proved to be no different. Setting out to embrace a youthful and masculine sensibility, designer Paolo Gerani looks to an effortless approach to modern Italian dressing. The collection was a showcasing of wardrobe staples at its finest with casual knits, relaxed suiting and buttery leather jackets in muted tones of dust grey and deep navy with hints of golden yellow and poppy red.

Rinse, Wash & Repeat–Caught somewhere between the skater and the cyclist, Frankie Morello’s man embraces a sporty attitude for the spring 2012 season. Hitting the catwalk in an array of fitted and relaxed silhouettes, a myriad of inspirations manifest themselves in a varied range. While narrow jackets and shirting options relay a certain sportsmanship, ties transformed into belts add a little novelty. Meanwhile, oversize proportions, nylon jackets, transparent fabrications and a vast lineup of color continue the youthful spontaneity that is key to the Italian’s label fun image.

Some Like It Hot…OR Cold–The second day of Milan Fashion Week presented a spring season that was remarkably covered. Save for a little leg, jackets and knits dominated the catwalk. Ermanno Scervino delivered sportswear a playful hand with fantastic disheveled ensembles. Meanwhile, Pringle of Scotland revealed a narrow silhouette with knits that could only hope to revel Missoni’s beloved lineup of colorful spring hued knitwear. On the other hand, Emporio Armani looked to a gray palette to emphasize prints of a graphic nature, while Thom Browne let the stripes do the talking in his latest collection for Moncler Gamme Bleu. From the raw edges of others to the romance of billowing silhouettes at Salvatore Ferragamo, Prada kept the momentum going with their men hitting the green for a classic outing with eccentric detailing. Making their way through a crowd, Trussardi’s men needed an escort, revealing a chic lineup of travel accessories. On the more grounded path, Calvin Klein and Vivienne Westwood shared a love for athletics. While Klein’s men were ready to hit the gym for those perfect beach bods, Westwood’s strapping gents were readying for the summer 2012 Olympics in London. Finally, walking to a beat of his own, Bottega Veneta’s man donned a wonderful tapestry of color, painting modern silhouettes with vibrant colors of the season.
