Entering their sophomore season as the newly re-branded A.D.Deertz, the label turns a cold shoulder to its unisex past with a fall range that is undeniably masculine. Infusing a classic sense of worker’s wear with their signature use of color, the fall collection reveals an accessible range of basics that provide an easy transition into the upcoming season.

Formerly known as ADD, designer Wibke Deertz has re-branded his line A.D.Deertz, marking the label’s directional shift from unisex clothing to solely menswear. The change comes as an extension of ADD’s reputation as a label that avoids “short cuts and dispensable gimmicks, while focusing on the subtleties of its collection.” The transition begins with the fall collection, but the benefits of focusing attention on menswear can be seen most in the spring collection, where Deertz’s penchant for practical no-nonsense pieces has evolved into a relaxed range of colorful separates. Taking to hues of orange, blue, purple and yellow, Deertz has skillfully pieced together an interchangeable collection of cuffed shorts, slouchy tops, light outerwear and a string of trousers with varying loose silhouettes. Altogether, the spring collection does not disappoint, improving the aesthetic we have become accustomed to, but with Deertz’s new devotion to menswear, fall 2010 should offer the perfect opportunity for several more exciting pieces.

B
erlin favorite, ADD is set for the fall season with patterns, textures, tie dye prints, and tattered oversize knits. Taking traditional shapes, ADD focuses on giving their clothes personality by utilizing a wide range of patterns and color. This idea is best exemplified in a collection that possesses great amounts of black and gray, while still reveling in bursts of bright colors such as pink, purple, and green. This upcoming season, ADD will be sure to put a bounce in your step with their dressed down collection that encompasses both ends of the color spectrum.

ADD is based in Berlin. The label created in 1999 believes that the constrictive nature of seasons can have a stifling affect on creativity. Instead of focusing on two collections a year, ADD maintains a diffusion line called ADD Standard. ADD Standard offers a stable selection of their favorite pieces for both men and women. Outside this line, ADD approaches seasonal collections with a unisex focus. Their main priority when designing is to avoid the artificial and create clothes with purpose that both men and women can wear. The latest spring collection adheres to this principle beautifully. Taking simple basics like tops and trousers, the portions are slightly enlarged, a spring palette of pastels applied, and the look refined with rope-thin belts.
