Anne Hilken and Chris­t­ian Kurt founded Berlin based label ANNTIAN in 2005. Hilken and Kurt pride them­selves on telling a story with each one of their col­lec­tions. Fas­ci­nated by the mate­ri­al­ity of clay and glaze “float­ing into each other,” the spring 2009 col­lec­tion is rep­re­sen­ta­tive of “Pot­tery.” The unique process of con­struct­ing pot­tery from shap­ing to glaz­ing sig­ni­fies Hilken and Kurt’s appre­ci­a­tion for details done by hand. They enjoy the “uncon­trol­lable and highly coin­ci­den­tal aspects in mod­el­ing clay and in glaz­ing sculp­tures — these spon­ta­neous aes­thet­ics that awake in the process of ‘doing.’ Here you get very close to a point where Beauty gets vivid, with­out a cause.” The col­lec­tion, with each piece being unique, acts as a can­vas cap­tur­ing a desert sunset.
