In search of a stronger, more serious image, designers Bibi Chemnitz and David Røgilds approached the fall season with more structure and a darker color palette. Still embracing their unisex appeal, but looking to ground their streetwear aspirations, the collection took shape around conservative button-downs rounded out by textured sweats and oversize tops. Meanwhile, fall’s collection takes the Danish label to new arenas with exhibitions in Berlin and Amsterdam in addition to their usual showing at Copenhagen Fashion Week, which kicks off later this week.

The latest collection from Danish label, Bibi Chemnitz is titled, “I am the same, only more”. The title comes from the words of the late Danish ballet star, Erik Bruhn. In terms of the label, the quote represents Bibi Chemnitz’s growth and maturity. As an extension of this idea, the spring collection takes the novel youthfulness of Bibi Chemnitz’s street inspired look and attempts to elevate it to the next level. Approaching basic garments with a modernist’s view of shapes and silhouettes, wistful tops and sweatshirts fall in a loose, natural manner that perfectly compliments the comfortable nature of the collection’s trousers and sweats. A relatively new label, having been founded in 2006, designers Bibi Chemnitz and David Røgilds are steadfast in their efforts to expand and hopeful to excel in their full capacity. Quite fitting, muse Erik Bruhn leaves behind words that envelop Bibi Chemnitz’s future: “I am part of something that was before me and I will be a part of what is after me.”

Denmark label Bibi Chemnitz was founded in 2006. Behind the label are Greenland native Bibi Chemnitz and David Røgilds. What started out as a collection of hoodies has expanded into a diverse growing range of clothing. Influential to the Bibi Chemnitz label is Chemnitz’s Nordic heritage. As Røgilds explained, “Inspiration for the AW09 collection is the raw Nordic forest and the animals. We have also tried to give the styles the names of animals that [best] represent the style in shape, color or way of behaving.” Perhaps, it is the survivalist instinct of animals that gives birth to the subtle use of quilting as a wearable shell. Lending the collection character, the quilting stands out in a minimal yet aesthetically pleasing fashion. This upcoming August, Bibi Chemnitz will be stocked at ASOS.
