General Idea Spring 2012 | New York Fashion Week

Inter­na­tional Flair–Gen­eral Idea takes on a preppy note for the spring 2012 sea­son, bring­ing a cer­tain vibrancy with a spir­ited color palette. Vaca­tion­ing in France with shorted suit­ing looks and bursts of turquoise as well as orange, the Korean label jux­ta­poses a sharp phi­los­o­phy with a relaxed atti­tude. With the likes of double-​​breasted blaz­ers made sporty with draw­string accents, shirt­ing is decon­structed with prints for a con­tin­ued laid-​​back streak. Round­ing out nau­ti­cal pair­ings with stripes and color block­ing, Gen­eral Idea charms with a mix of approach­able sep­a­rates and an infec­tious motif.

Luis Borges (DNA) tries Gen­eral Idea’s fall 2010 col­lec­tion on for size. Show­cas­ing a dark col­lec­tion, accented with red, blue and camel-​​toned neu­trals, the Korean label hits it out of the park. Boast­ing flex­i­ble lay­ers that answer to not only a cer­tain sen­si­bil­ity, but a call to be mod­ern, Gen­eral Idea blends the gap between streetwear-​​inspired fash­ions and con­tem­po­rary trends.

Tying together a grad­ual pro­gres­sion of color and sil­hou­ettes, Gen­eral Idea’s recent New York show­ing of the lat­est col­lec­tion enti­tled Nos­tal­gia delighted the senses with a vari­ety of bold cuts and graphic prints. Kick­ing the show off with a crisp fash­ion­able take on sports­wear dressed in fiery red, designer Bum­suk Choi addressed the basics before try­ing his hand at the mod­ern sil­hou­ette. Relaxed and extended, the touch of an artist came to mind with splashes of paint across trousers, while a fit­ting blast from the past came forth in a seg­ment of work­er­swear per­fected with draw­string belting.
