Today’s Prep–J.Crew head designer Frank Muytjens looked to the paintings of Fairfield Porter and Rauschenberg as the inspiration of his latest collection for the label. Mixing various hues of the same color for interesting ensembles, the new range blended Porter’s fresh colors with the tactual knack of Rauschenberg. From militaristic pieces, updated from the archives or functional classics such as the two-button suit, J.Crew enjoyed spring efforts, complete with reversed prints, youthful cuts and a new-age timelessness.

Ryan Kennedy and RJ Rogenski front this season’s lookbook from classic retailer J.Crew. Furthering a smart day to day look, blazers and knits dress up a fine tuned selection of fall casuals that range from khakis to relaxed shirting options. Conveying an affection for the everyday man, the collection charms with subtle references to that cadet or firefighter in training.

If you’re lucky, you may be in time to snag a pair of limited edition hand painted shorts from J.Crew’s New York locations at 484 Broadway and The Liquor Store at 235 West Broadway. The shorts are limited to a number of 20 and retail for $148. If all else fails, there is a more accessible version available online.
I always get the J.Crew catalogue in the mail and toss it, but this time I decided to take a look and was pleasantly surprised. I might consider a pair of Red Wing boots, but what really caught my eye was the purple cardigan and leather bag. I’ll have to scope out the bag in person, but I’ve been wanting a purple cardigan for the longest time. [insert happy dance here]
