Martin Lamothe Spring 2009
Behind the label Martin Lamothe is designer Elena Martin. Martin received her education at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design in London, before returning to Barcelona, Spain to work as the Art Director for Antonio Miros Denim brand. In 2006, Martin debuted her own label, Martin Lamothe. Originally, a womenswear line, Martin Lamothe has recently made the venture into menswear.
Normally, I visually tear runway looks apart when looking at them to see what pieces I like, but this is one of the few collections where I literally like everything. The first thing I noticed were the colors. I normally don’t like complete looks based in light colors, but the way the individual pieces fall are so refreshing. I also love the little details like the ribbons tied around the shirt collars. I like the loose silhouettes, but what really stands out to me are the last couple pairs of pants. The material is worked in a way that would seem clunky and heavy, but its not. Its different…fresh, visually interesting. Instantly, my eyes were locked on. They are the ultimate layering piece and definitely one of a kind. Time to officially start that spring wishlist!
