The scene was quite dark at Rynshu’s latest show. Passing through a black side entrance illuminated by red, it was like entering an exclusive nightclub. Once inside and seated, the show got started with a presentation of several of the trendiest men to be seen this fashion week. Taking full command in the male alternative to wedges, Rynshu’s men took to the catwalk in billowing harem pants and jackets that were strong on structure. With pinched shoulders and an endless sea of silk and sequins, the collection may have embraced a generally black color palette, but it did not forgo glitz in any way–exuding over the top luxury and glamour.
Masatomo’s latest collection is a lighthearted affair. Based around the idea “to enjoy oneself and have a good time”, the spring collection is an escape from our everyday lives to enjoy the leisure of a south sea island. Capturing the dream-like clouds and scenic views of this island, unique ink jet technics were used to craft bold trousers and tops. Black silk flowers are skillfully scattered across jackets and trousers to appear floating. A linen based mix is double weaved for the collection’s noticeable black and white striped garments. Continuing the wistful retreat are effortlessly chic sarouel pants–several cut from silk patterns representing the French flag and others from Africa. Adding to the collection’s merriment and spontaneity are polka dots playfully scattered across suiting. Rounding off the collection are fine leather jackets, with just the right amount of glamor for the Masatomo man, but still light enough for a summer evening. Altogether, the spring collection is a wonderful way to end one book of a continuing series in preparation for a fresh beginning. Inspired by the Japanese tradition of changing one’s name when you come to a crossroad, fall 2010 will see the relaunch of Masatomo as Rynshu.

june 24th – 10:30am: second day of casting for the masatomo ss10 show…
most of the guys who went to milan took the last flight or the night train yesterday and they are now in town, but surprisingly the day is starting quite slowly…since the shows are kicking off tomorrow i assume lots of the guys who only just got back had plenty of fittings to do or last minute call-backs; unless they’re all hanging around with madonna ;-) ! lol
thank god the hotel’s corridor didn’t remain empty for very long and the line started to get considerably consequent…here are the boys!
thomas aoustet @ studio :

first day of casting for the masatomo ss10 show to be held in paris next sunday…brief is 18 models including 7 black ones; mainly new faces, young and fresh, with style, attitude and strong personality…
though a big part of the guys are still in milan, lots of them are back in paris or just didn’t go to italy and the line in the hotel’s corridor is growing as starting time is approaching…all of the main agencies in town have of course been informed (bananas, ford, major, mgm, nathalie, new madison, studio, success) since they usually provide the best choice, but also some ‘minor’ ones (angels, idole, karin) because you never know!
the casting is being held in a big room where the collection is already set on racks in the right order for the show, where in 5 days the masatomo team will be preparing everything for the big day: rynshu (the designer), sachiko watanabe (stylist and co-ordinator), mr hayashi (the ‘alteration magician’), yohko (the discrete designer’s wife and ‘adviser’), nakamura-san (sales manager), michiko (paris shop manager and translator) and myself…
