Rynshu Spring 2011 | Paris Fashion Week

The scene was quite dark at Rynshu’s lat­est show. Pass­ing through a black side entrance illu­mi­nated by red, it was like enter­ing an exclu­sive night­club. Once inside and seated, the show got started with a pre­sen­ta­tion of sev­eral of the trendi­est men to be seen this fash­ion week. Tak­ing full com­mand in the male alter­na­tive to wedges, Rynshu’s men took to the cat­walk in bil­low­ing harem pants and jack­ets that were strong on struc­ture. With pinched shoul­ders and an end­less sea of silk and sequins, the col­lec­tion may have embraced a gen­er­ally black color palette, but it did not forgo glitz in any way – exud­ing over the top lux­ury and glamour.

Masatomo Spring 2010

Masatomo’s lat­est col­lec­tion is a light­hearted affair. Based around the idea “to enjoy one­self and have a good time”, the spring col­lec­tion is an escape from our every­day lives to enjoy the leisure of a south sea island. Cap­tur­ing the dream-​​like clouds and scenic views of this island, unique ink jet tech­nics were used to craft bold trousers and tops. Black silk flow­ers are skill­fully scat­tered across jack­ets and trousers to appear float­ing. A linen based mix is dou­ble weaved for the collection’s notice­able black and white striped gar­ments. Con­tin­u­ing the wist­ful retreat are effort­lessly chic sarouel pants – sev­eral cut from silk pat­terns rep­re­sent­ing the French flag and oth­ers from Africa. Adding to the collection’s mer­ri­ment and spon­tane­ity are polka dots play­fully scat­tered across suit­ing. Round­ing off the col­lec­tion are fine leather jack­ets, with just the right amount of glamor for the Masatomo man, but still light enough for a sum­mer evening. Alto­gether, the spring col­lec­tion is a won­der­ful way to end one book of a con­tin­u­ing series in prepa­ra­tion for a fresh begin­ning. Inspired by the Japan­ese tra­di­tion of chang­ing one’s name when you come to a cross­road, fall 2010 will see the relaunch of Masatomo as Rynshu.

june 24th — 10:30am: sec­ond day of cast­ing for the masatomo ss10 show…

most of the guys who went to milan took the last flight or the night train yes­ter­day and they are now in town, but sur­pris­ingly the day is start­ing quite slowly…since the shows are kick­ing off tomor­row i assume lots of the guys who only just got back had plenty of fit­tings to do or last minute call-​​backs; unless they’re all hang­ing around with madonna ;-) ! lol

thank god the hotel’s cor­ri­dor didn’t remain empty for very long and the line started to get con­sid­er­ably consequent…here are the boys!

behind the scenes — casting for masatomo spring 2010 show (day 1)

first day of cast­ing for the masatomo ss10 show to be held in paris next sunday…brief is 18 mod­els includ­ing 7 black ones; mainly new faces, young and fresh, with style, atti­tude and strong personality…

though a big part of the guys are still in milan, lots of them are back in paris or just didn’t go to italy and the line in the hotel’s cor­ri­dor is grow­ing as start­ing time is approaching…all of the main agen­cies in town have of course been informed (bananas, ford, major, mgm, nathalie, new madi­son, stu­dio, suc­cess) since they usu­ally pro­vide the best choice, but also some ‘minor’ ones (angels, idole, karin) because you never know!

the cast­ing is being held in a big room where the col­lec­tion is already set on racks in the right order for the show, where in 5 days the masatomo team will be prepar­ing every­thing for the big day: ryn­shu (the designer), sachiko watan­abe (styl­ist and co-​​ordinator), mr hayashi (the ‘alter­ation magi­cian’), yohko (the dis­crete designer’s wife and ‘adviser’), nakamura-​​san (sales man­ager), michiko (paris shop man­ager and trans­la­tor) and myself…

When Night Falls — Masatomo Fall 2009

The com­mon color black dom­i­nates Masatomo’s lat­est col­lec­tion, but that is the only fea­ture that remains sim­ple. The fall col­lec­tion rev­els in dark­ness and avoids day­wear, instead thriv­ing on vel­vet, leather, and silk pieces, pro­duced in loud prints such as leop­ard. The Masatomo man is a dan­ger­ous char­ac­ter of the night, but soft­ened by del­i­cate pieces like lace gloves that chal­lenge the tra­di­tional idea of mas­culin­ity. Masatomo’s lat­est might not be for the faint of heart, but is per­fect for those trend­set­ters ready to push some boundaries.
