Yohji Yamamoto’s Com­ing Soon is quickly com­ing into its own. Despite bor­row­ing Yamamoto’s sig­na­ture loosely slung sil­hou­ette, the label forges ahead with gar­ments that are deci­sively more urban and appro­pri­ate for every­day wear. When color is found amongst the safer choices, it is not shock­ingly bright, but wel­com­ing. Dressed in mod­est earth tones and pur­ple pig­ments, sim­ple tops, jack­ets and trousers form the basis of Com­ing Soon’s spring col­lec­tion. Embrac­ing a Bohemian vibe, the range is less about draw­ing atten­tion and more about feel­ing com­fort­able in your own skin.

Preview — Coming Soon Fall 2009

Com­ing Soon, Yohji Yamamoto’s dif­fu­sion line geared toward the world­wide youth mar­ket, has just released their fall col­lec­tion. The line, “cre­ated for a gen­er­a­tion of women and men who wear what they like, with­out stat­ing who designed it,” cap­tures this vision with a mul­ti­tude of relaxed, casual looks for the upcom­ing sea­son. A vari­ety of pieces con­tribute to this aes­thetic, from aggres­sively washed, detailed, and cuffed denim, to wovens and coats with clas­sic flair. In the Yamamoto tra­di­tion, these gar­ments are accom­pa­nied by a range of cre­ative and var­ied footwear.

Revolve New Arrivals — Coming Soon & Unconditional

Yohji Yamamoto’s Com­ing Soon (top row) and Uncon­di­tional are the lat­est labels to arrive at Revolve.  Com­ing Soon serves up sev­eral waist­coats, while Uncon­di­tional stands out with shorts and pants fea­tur­ing a drop crotch.

Coming Soon Spring 2009

Com­ing Soon retains Yohji Yamamoto’s sig­na­ture over­size relaxed fits. How­ever, Yamamoto’s giant pro­por­tions are scaled back, allow­ing for an eas­ier ready-​​to-​​wear look. Tak­ing airy, light­weight mate­ri­als per­fect for warm weather, the col­lec­tion finds a bal­ance between soft sil­hou­ettes and mas­cu­line cloth­ing. This bal­ance is seen in the collection’s clean lines that demon­strate a con­stant aware­ness of the male form. Slightly wrin­kled and disheveled, Com­ing Soon’s lat­est col­lec­tion takes spring fash­ion to the next level with fresh mature looks.

The nor­mal Yohji pro­por­tions are there, yet the clothes feel void of life.  I don’t know if it’s the styling, model, lack of color, or a com­bi­na­tion of everything.
