Yohji Yamamoto’s Coming Soon is quickly coming into its own. Despite borrowing Yamamoto’s signature loosely slung silhouette, the label forges ahead with garments that are decisively more urban and appropriate for everyday wear. When color is found amongst the safer choices, it is not shockingly bright, but welcoming. Dressed in modest earth tones and purple pigments, simple tops, jackets and trousers form the basis of Coming Soon’s spring collection. Embracing a Bohemian vibe, the range is less about drawing attention and more about feeling comfortable in your own skin.

Coming Soon, Yohji Yamamoto’s diffusion line geared toward the worldwide youth market, has just released their fall collection. The line, “created for a generation of women and men who wear what they like, without stating who designed it,” captures this vision with a multitude of relaxed, casual looks for the upcoming season. A variety of pieces contribute to this aesthetic, from aggressively washed, detailed, and cuffed denim, to wovens and coats with classic flair. In the Yamamoto tradition, these garments are accompanied by a range of creative and varied footwear.

Yohji Yamamoto’s Coming Soon (top row) and Unconditional are the latest labels to arrive at Revolve. Coming Soon serves up several waistcoats, while Unconditional stands out with shorts and pants featuring a drop crotch.

Coming Soon retains Yohji Yamamoto’s signature oversize relaxed fits. However, Yamamoto’s giant proportions are scaled back, allowing for an easier ready-to-wear look. Taking airy, lightweight materials perfect for warm weather, the collection finds a balance between soft silhouettes and masculine clothing. This balance is seen in the collection’s clean lines that demonstrate a constant awareness of the male form. Slightly wrinkled and disheveled, Coming Soon’s latest collection takes spring fashion to the next level with fresh mature looks.

The normal Yohji proportions are there, yet the clothes feel void of life. I don’t know if it’s the styling, model, lack of color, or a combination of everything.
