Mental by Shunnoz & Tekasala | Modalisboa #34 Check Point – Day 4

closing this 34th edition of modalisboa as the international guest was mental … this angolan label designed by shunnoz & tekasala brought exoticism, colour, rhythm, fun and energy to the portuguese catwalk with models strolling down the runway on the uptempo beats of kuduro, leading the audience to a standing ovation …

entitled “tecido-adaptação” (fabric-adaptation), the collection is all about the construction of ideas, the stimulation of new multicultural thinkers and the search for positive values … the fundamental is to allow the creation of an atmosphere where the new, as long as positive, has room in the society … it invites us to participate in an individual renewal …
the tailoring looks with unique identity and concept are produced from high quality super 100, super 150 and super 180 fabrics (sometimes burnt) … the colours (rosé, sand, lead grey, fuchsia, red, purple, blue, green, yellow) are like a rainbow full of harmony … the motives (striped stampings, checks, maxi dots, flowers) mix and match suggesting a duality of the human life … the garments are very often ‘divided’ in two, bicoloured, each half representing itself : cold & warm, life & death, god & devil, man & woman; even the shoes are mismatched thus accentuating this idea of division …
