Model of the Month | Lyle for Dazed & Confused

Dazed & Con­fused is one of the few mag­a­zines that are con­sis­tent in push­ing the enve­lope and pro­vid­ing a mode for menswear to be expressed in a fash­ion that is not plagued by the super­fi­cial. As Lyle Lod­wick explains, “it’s really smart the way Dazed takes a group of artists, all at the top of their game, throws them into a stu­dio with a can­vas (the model) and knows that some insane col­lab­o­ra­tion will be the final prod­uct.” Hav­ing been fea­tured sev­eral times in Dazed & Con­fused, one of Lyle’s most mem­o­rable shoots was his work with Richard Bur­bridge for this past October’s issue. He recalled the shoot’s “incred­i­ble team, which is why the pic­tures turned out so rad. The leg­endary Chris­ti­aan Houten­bos did the hair and head­pieces; Peter Philips, global cre­ative direc­tor for Chanel did the makeup, Rob­bie Spencer from Dazed styled it and [if course] Richard Bur­bridge…” Although the end results made for a dynamic shoot, there was no gain with­out pain. “The shoot was about ten hours straight and [Lyle] was the only model, so in between each shot, [they] had to remove all of the makeup and paint to clear the pal­let for a com­pletely new con­cept…” As any­one can imag­ine, “by the end of the day, [his] skin was really red and hurt a bit”, but it was all in a suc­cess­ful day’s work.
