The Tailored Man–Accenting a tailored vision with luxe fabrications, Kris Van Assche presents a clean showing for Dior Homme’s spring 2012 season. An attentive eye to suiting is a Dior mainstay, but where this season really shines is Van Assche’s fine execution of the simple basics. Outside impeccable tailored lines, the collection shifts into a functional mode with shirting effortlessly cut from leather and silk. Combine the easy shapes with a stable of alluring accessories as well as the draping of paneled outerwear and the new spring season is a modern delight.

A Place in the Sun–Warm thoughts of 1960’s Hawaii and the gorgeous images from the portfolio of Slim Aarons inspire a tropical getaway for the latest Kenzo collection from Antonio Marras. Embarking on a charming tale, a general relaxed silhouette takes priority as a myriad of prints lend the range its spirit. From stripes and floral prints to polka dots, the Kenzo man enjoys some time off in a wonderful array of blue, green as well as fuchsia. Showcasing tailored staples, ranging from the double breasted jacket and pleated suiting shorts to semi-fitted trousers, Marras once again demonstrates a leveled hand, employing a concept and sound construction side by side with great results.

Pilati’s Stroke of Simplicity–Putting aside his minimal approach to design for a moment, Stefano Pilati turns his focus to the fundamentals of constructions this season for Yves Saint Laurent. Classic principal silhouettes in the forms of sharply tailored jackets with strong lapels, masculine shoulders and slender trench coats were married with Pilati’s love for exaggerated proportions, featuring voluminous tops and pleated trousers. Meanwhile, button enclosures and lace detailing found its way onto safari jackets and loosely fitted shirting with hints of exotic python leather in footwear as well as belts for a subtle touch of luxury, conveying Yves Saint Laurent’s understated sophistication.

Stick a Comb in It–Walter Van Beirendonck dreams up a candy coated color palette for the latest invitation into his offbeat world. Fused with images of the straight-laced gent of the 50’s, Van Beirendonck’s man plays it coy, teetering the line between accessible and possessing the qualities of an undeniable standout. From the checked jacket and bow-tie to cut away shirting, bold arm length gloves or a use of an abstract shapes, the collection manages to highlight Van Beirendonck’s respected conceptual tendencies while also showcasing easy wardrobe staples for the spring 2012 season.

The LV Traveler–The strong sense of luxury is never lost in the casual offerings of a Louis Vuitton collection. Designers Marc Jacobs and Kim Jones explore the common ground between the jet setter and backpacker lifestyle in the relaxing forms of rolled tailored trousers, sporty shorting options and athletic windbreakers. Flannel shirting, desert boots, camping backpacks and utilitarian jackets took luxury to a new level of functionality, while tailored suiting paired with velcro sandals made traveling continental in style easy and practical.

Risky Games–Romain Kremer’s eccentric design sense comes together with Nicola Formichetti’s outlandish style choices for Mugler’s spring 2012 collection. A chaotic mix of future aspirations, the club scene and the eighties, the latest range comes together with a vast cast of characters. While suiting enjoys a couple of striking moments, a highlighter green spawn of a wardrobe in bold cuts steals the show amongst a turn to cutaway garments that left Mugler’s man scantily clad, whether it was a cropped muscle top or a lack of shorts. From glittery sequins and acid washed denim to a post industrial motif, Mugler achieved a show of head turning proportions.
