Ann Demeulemeester Spring 2011 | Paris Fashion Week

Despite show­ing spring’s col­lec­tion in her typ­i­cal go to col­ors – black and white, the recent show­ing from Ann Demeule­meester felt strangely dark. Most likely attrib­uted to the mono­chrome styling of the range, this season’s col­lec­tion were lay­ered within an inch of its life, forc­ing the eye to do the extra work in efforts to dis­sect the ensem­bles. How­ever, pro­vid­ing for a wardrobe of equal parts fragility and strength, spring’s out­ing was con­tained by straps to an add a sub­tle edge of crazy. Alto­gether, a lit­tle sleepy but no doubt a mas­ter­piece in its own right, spring’s show offered a chic sequence of Demeulemeester’s sig­na­ture acces­sories, waist­coats, jack­ets and trousers.

Rick Owens Spring 2011 | Paris Fashion Week

There were no sur­prises at Rick Owens as the designer infused his col­lec­tion with rock and chan­neled Earth’s most pious. From sleeve­less num­bers to halved sleeves and elon­gated out­er­wear, Owens made a raw state­ment with blunt cuts. Tak­ing his footwear over the edge, the shape became less dis­cernible and an arti­fact of the chaotic times. Alto­gether dark and sculp­tural, Rick Owens remained con­sis­tent, cre­at­ing for the man not too apt for change.
