The black suit encompasses John Varvatos’ comfort zone this season as he marries goth and rock ‘n’ roll for a straight-forward collection. Aiming to soften a harsh black look, browns and purples intertwine as crushed fabrics find peace amongst sheer knits and fragile accessories. Altogether, Varvatos crafts a strong thin silhouette with modern appeal.

Wrapping up the first day of Milan Fashion Week, it looks like the color black is here to stay. The latest from Costume National Homme seems to find solace in the gloomy color. Seeking to undercut the seriousness of all suiting, the label turns to semi-relaxed silhouettes, drawstring trousers and knit components. The results include a playful execution of knit hybrids, but ultimately the range’s subtle details tend to be hindered by the absence of color, which would have eased the severity of this season’s blackout effect.

Looking to capture the essence of rebellious youth, next year’s spring collection from Paul Smith Red Ear solidifies its point with the casting of Alex Dunstan and Jethro Cave. Coordinating a dopey mix of tops and bottoms with a quirky splash of color and prints, Paul Smith takes familiar pieces in a new direction. Tropical and paisley prints, which are typically seen in connection to an older generation represent a youthful whim in this context. Playing with proportion and color, Paul Smith crafts a special niche for a generation who are willing to take risks with a mix of old and new.

Jethro Cave is the epitome of a bad boy model. With a carefree attitude and an edgy haircut to match it, Jethro happens to be the son of rocker, Nick Cave. He has walked for Balenciaga, Costume National and Gareth Pugh. Challenging the ideal image of a male model, Jethro became the face of Topman, C’N'N Costume National and McQ Lookbook. He has appeared in VMAN, Vogue Hommes Japan, Dazed & Confused, L’Uomo Vogue and i-D Magazine, amongst others.
