getting access to the backstage for a ‘major’ show is not that easy and that was the case with mugler whose pr office very kindly granted me an accreditation to the riser but would not allow me to properly shoot behind the scenes …
what do you do in that case when you know you are not a proper runway photographer and the purpose of your report is to capture what’s going on before – or after – the actual show ? well, just like groupies outside a concert waiting for their favourite band to show up, you hang around the entrance to that heavily guarded ‘secret’ place – in that case the ‘galerie de minéralogie’ at the national museum of natural history in the botanical garden – and you wait for the models to arrive or hope that they will come out for a cigarette or some fresh air … and this is how you manage to snap the likes of simon nessman, francisco lachowski, adrien sahores, robert rae, arthur daniyarov, vladimir rotar, christopher wetmore, dominique hollington, eric puzio, clément chabernaud, travis cannata, louis galloway etc or even the label’s creative director nicola formichetti himself !
then, as you go inside the venue to stand on the riser with a crowd of professional runway photographers and just like me you are on a lucky day you finally get a front row seat (which allows you to take a couple of decent runway pictures too) before finally succeeding to enter the backstage as soon as the show is over and catch more models before they’ve already left to the next one …
mission accomplished for this 1st day, more to follow tomorrow !

Recently released, the July/August edition of 160 Grams as usual offers a vivid escape into the fantastical world of fashion. Departing for the woods, just in time for a mystic summer solstice, Roman Ivancic and Mikus Lasmanis are followed by Dinah Hayt, who magically captures the colorful occasion. Donning a provocative wardrobe of great texture and proportion, the mysterious duo are outfitted by René Gloor, who curates a stylish mix of Romain Kremer, Juun.J, Vivienne Westwood and other engaging designers.

Vladimir Ivanov and Roman Ivancic for Lacoste fall 2010 campaign

Cast in the shadows, Milan Vukmirovic brings a gentle peace to his moody editorial for last month’s isse of L’Officiel Hommes China. Finding solace in isolation, Lucien Thomkins, Roman Ivancic and Adrien Sahores paint the ideal picture of sensitivity.

It is a dramatic battle of the redheads for Sven Baenziger’s latest editorial for the winter issue of French magazine Citizen K. Featuring Roman Ivancic and newbie River Viiperi amongst others, balance and wits are put to the test as several of spring’s monochromatic numbers are given a run-through.

Butterflies may apply a gentle calm, but in his latest editorial photographed by Jannis Tsipoulanis, Roman Ivancic boasts a dark hard exterior. Masking a certain sensitivity, stylist Andrej Skok crafts a rebellious look from leather, mesh and a plenitude of safety pins.

Roman Ivancic made sure everybody knew him with bookings for covetable runways and magazines when he was fresh on the scene. He has walked for Kenzo, Neil Barrett, Raf Simons, Trussardi, Emanuel Ungaro and YSL. Roman has been photographed for Wound, L’Officiel Hommes, GQ Style, Dazed & Confused and Vogue Hommes Japan. The fast rising star’s two successful campaigns in 2010 add promise for a successful career.
