A Boy Named Tell–Tell Carl­son was dis­cov­ered in 2000 at the age of thir­teen at a Litch­field fair in Con­necti­cut, but it was not until a chance com­pe­ti­tion in Florida that the bud­ding model was sent on a new course. Trav­el­ing to New York for his big break, the first years proved dif­fi­cult for Tell. At that moment, he rep­re­sented the com­plete oppo­site of what cast­ing direc­tors looked for – he was a lanky kid with long hair and an androg­y­nous appeal. How­ever, attend­ing an open cast­ing for Dior Homme in 2003, ran at the time by Hedi Slimane’s first assis­tant Kris Van Ass­che, Tell’s career as a model was soon to get the momen­tum it needed. Cast for Dior Homme’s spring 2004 cam­paign, Tell encom­passed Slimane’s new vision for fash­ion. The Dior man was the cul­mi­na­tion of a youth­ful energy that had man­i­fested itself in the mar­riage of rock music, grandeur and a pecu­liar love for the boy­ish frame. Part of a new wave of mod­els, who set the ground­work for sev­eral of today’s bright­est stars, Tell entered mod­el­ing with a hun­gry thirst to learn more about the world of fash­ion and made a quick exit with tools of expe­ri­ence that have cat­a­pulted him into roles in styling, man­age­ment and sales. One of the core sto­ries in our pre­miere issue, it was truly an honor to not only work with Tell, but get to know more about his days as a model.

Still in search of a new pair of sun­glasses and this pic­ture of Tell Carl­son shot by David Vasil­je­vic came to mind. Not in love with white frames, but on the right per­son, they are short of amaz­ing. They def­i­nitely need to be accom­pa­nied by style, con­fi­dence, and an over­all aura of cool.
