Phillip Lim Spring 2009

1. Phillip Lim causes me to write in first per­son, which I absolutely loathe at the moment. Do not fret. I will soon try to put behind me three months of a pro­fes­sor who required papers writ­ten in the first per­son. I do not know what it is about Mr. Lim, but every time I see a col­lec­tion, it is so charm­ing. His designs do not come across as try­ing too hard, yet they are each unique to him and have that “It” fac­tor. This sea­son, he has dropped his “boy-​​cut”, yet some­how, the look or energy of the col­lec­tion did not change.

2. Every sea­son is full of sur­prises. Lim shows his menswear along­side his wom­enswear, only giv­ing a pre­view. When the actual sea­son comes, it is excit­ing to see so many new pieces for the first time.

3. Lim is an advo­cate of the man bag. Each sea­son, he plays with inter­est­ing shapes, color and great mate­ri­als like suede and leather.

4. When it comes to color, this man is any­thing but one-​​note. As seen in this col­lec­tion, Lim uses every­thing from the dark sta­ples of black and navy to dar­ing, adven­tur­ous col­ors like yel­low and red.

5. Lim’s col­lec­tions are full-​​range, always includ­ing items like his trade­mark pocket tees and pea­coats, as well as every­thing from tanks to trousers.

6. A piece for every­one. This season’s must-​​haves from Phillip Lim include one item in that deli­cious mus­tard color, a pair of the baggy over-​​the-​​knee shorts, and a refined pair of sweats. Tell me you do not love it and you are excommunicated.
