Preview — ODYN VOVK Fall 2009 — “Death From Above”

Paris Fash­ion Week has barely started and it is about time to shift gears towards New York.  New­comer Austin Sherba­nenko is prepar­ing for his first run­way show, which takes place on Feb­ru­ary 12, 2009 dur­ing New York Fash­ion Week. The Los Ange­les based designer is show­ing the sec­ond col­lec­tion from his label, ODYN VOVK.  The col­lec­tion titled “Death From Above” was ini­tially inspired by musi­cal ele­ments as dif­fer­ent as Euro­pean folk, clas­si­cal music, Eng­lish punk and Nor­we­gian black metal. Sherbanenko’s inspi­ra­tion like these gen­res “is full of lost beauty, regret, sor­row, inspi­ra­tion, nobil­ity, and of the eter­nal human goal of search­ing for a mean­ing­ful exis­tence.” In a sim­pler terms, Sherba­nenko describes his fall col­lec­tion as “Char­lie Chap­lin and Boy George [meet­ing] in a Leather bar and [join­ing] a Heavy Metal Cello band.”
