RIP Obedient Sons, Long Live Hutson

This win­ter saw the abrupt end of Christina and Swaim Hutson’s label Obe­di­ent Sons & Daugh­ters after trou­bles with their finan­cial backer.  How­ever, the Hut­sons bounce back quickly.  The mar­ried design team has launched new label Hut­son, which gives them more free­dom in the design process.  It is no sur­prise that Hut­son is fairly sim­i­lar to Obe­di­ent Sons.  How­ever, the Hut­sons are slowly mov­ing away from the slim sil­hou­ette they are known for by incor­po­rat­ing over­size and elon­gated pieces.  As Tim Blanks elo­quently expressed, the Hut­sons’ work with both dras­tic sil­hou­ettes is rep­re­sen­ta­tive of a “deca­dent dual­ity of out­size mas­cu­line out­er­wear con­ceal­ing a flam­boy­ant inner heart.”
