Gideon Tam’s label, Placed By Gideon offers a fresh laid-back perspective for the current season. Based out of Great Britain, Tam specializes in knitwear. “Driven by the simple philosophy of combining premium materials and production standards with contemporary, yet wearable designs,” the spring collection is light and unaffected. Open weave knits and relaxed silhouettes provide for a chic, but lived-in effect, while grays and blacks are effortlessly complimented by hints of warm yellow. The aforementioned attributes combine for a collection that is as smart as it is satisfying.

This season, Alexander McQueen’s McQ line is inspired by the London nightlife of the 1980’s. Graphically inclined, the collection steers clear of basic solids in preference of colorful prints. Drawing inspiration from “the decadence and extravagance that characterized the figureheads of the era’s subversive club scene”, the spring collection embodies a rebellious youth and sense of freedom.

As per usual, the latest Marc by Marc Jacobs campaign was photographed by Juergen Teller. The dirty, gritty campaign is surprisingly dark for spring, but it is safe to expect the unexpected when it comes to Marc Jacobs. Case in point — Cole Mohr was the leading lady for last fall’s women’s line.

Spring 2009 marks the debut of Lina Österman’s self-titled label. If the collection’s direction looks familiar, it is because Österman is the creative force behind Pudel. Taking Pudel’s same gender-neutral appeal, Österman has created a high end unisex inspired collection. Simplistic in black, gray, and white, the collection’s beauty is found in its deconstructed nature. Shredded and tousled with care, the pieces are presented in a chic manner that is effortless. Subtly adorned with studs and leather straps, this light-weight collection finds a balance between soft dream-like materials and an edgy Gothic inspired look.
