Another new label to arrive at Forward is Japanese label Kiryuyrik. Founded in 2002, Kiryuyrik is the product of Masakatsu Takayanagi and Yuki Taniyama. The design duo ease into a simplistic, but sensational collection that is slightly reminiscent of the work of Yohji Yamamoto. However, this is not surprising as both Takayanagi and Taniyama have worked for Yamamoto. Takayanagi worked as a pattern maker, while Taniyama was a press agent. Their invaluable experience definitely has not gone to waste. Working with a monochromatic color palette, the duo has turned out a collection that is as fashionably slim as it is sleek and contemporary. Pre-wrinkled fabrics and cleverly placed drawstrings give the collection personality, while clean but edgy cuts will be sure to secure Kiryuyrik a place in several wish lists.

Spring must really be here, because A.P.C. just went live with their latest Madras collection. Very much in the same vein as last season, the collection includes relaxed laid-back pieces in both neutral and bright colors. Overall, nothing too exciting, but it is nice to see wide legged pants and some use of color. Plus — espadrilles, stripes, and board shorts just beg for leisure time and a beautiful, sunny day at the beach.

Rainy days do not always have to be accompanied by gloom. This season, Slow and Steady Wins the Race lifts spirits by collaborating with Portland store Stand Up Comedy. The collaboration has resulted in a range of rainwear inspired by none other than Portland’s signature rainfalls. The locally produced collection includes everything from trenchcoats and ponchos to rainboots. In addition to being stocked at Stand Up Comedy, the collection will be available at Opening Ceremony, Hejfina, and other stores.

Copenhagen based label, Day Birger et Mikkelsen adds another collection to their arsenol with their “High Summer” collection. The collection picks up smoothly where the last one left off, moving from beige dominated pieces to a cool blue and gray monochromatic color palette. The jackets are lighter and the shorts get shorter, but the effortless chic attributes remain. A standout is the denim inspired jacket and shorts number. Perhaps they are too much together, but they have the potential to be versatile stylish pieces when separated. This idea is true of most of the collection that boasts easy to integrate pieces.

The latest spring collection from SOPHNET is about finding a balance between casual streetwear and refined resort ready pieces. This is reinforced by the collection’s signature use of oriental flower and leaf prints. The prints transition smoothly into a color palette driven by deep mustards and variants of blue that nicely dress up an array of pieces — perfect for the casual wearer who wants to try something a little outside their comfort area.
