Spring/Summer 2016 Key Menswear Trends

The first edition of New York Fashion Week: Men perfectly captured the trending styles of today’s modern age with a certain ease. Going sporty, relaxed proportions captivated the season as shape became a key detail. Embracing a laid-back attitude, the oversized coat, longline shirts as well as the layering of shorts and leggings dominated spring-summer 2016 menswear styles.

Spring/Summer 2016 Men’s Trend: Oversized Coats

The summer coat made quite the impression during Milan and Paris Fashion Week. The shows in New York were no different. Forgiving and accessible to men of all shapes, the oversized proportions of coats struck a relaxed chord at the shows of Ovadia & Sons, Cadet and Billy Reid, among other fashion brands. As shown during presentations, the contemporary, larger than life coat goes great with everything from slouchy shorts to chic trousers.

Spring/Summer 2016 Men’s Trend: Layering Shorts & Leggings

A modern trend resurfaces with the pairing of slim leggings with active-styled shorts for a sporty appeal. The standout look appealed to the casual nature of many of New York Fashion Week: Men’s offerings. While Perry Ellis delivered rich color with its shorts and leggings, Rochambeau and John Elliott + Co. contributed to another trend with its white-hot summer looks.

Spring/Summer 2016 Men’s Trend: Elongated Tops

When it comes to individual menswear pieces, quantity is limited. Therefore, proportions become crucial when it comes to wardrobe updates. Designers are taking heed with longer lengths becoming more common on the catwalk. From Ovadia & Sons’ genius crisp white shirt to the breathable layers of Alexandre Plokhov and Robert Geller, the longline tee had its moment during New York Fashion Week: Men.
