Dries Van Noten Spring 2012 | Paris Fashion Week

The Active Clas­sic–Dries Van Noten fused his acclaimed vision with the qual­i­ties of an active lifestyle for his lat­est out­ing. Ush­er­ing in a sea­son of suit­ing sep­a­rates and cov­etable knits, spring’s col­lec­tion looked to silk and leather for a spe­cial appeal. Tak­ing ordi­nary pieces like a pair of shorts, let­ting out the sil­hou­ette and giv­ing it a luxe fin­ish, many under­stated pieces turned into quite the state­ment. From the beauty of relaxed silk jack­ets to chic jump­suits, belted parkas and dreamy open-​​weave knits, Van Noten was at the top of his craft. Draw­ing the season’s col­ors from a rich palette of cof­fee brown, mid­night blue and deep bur­gundy, the spring out­ing came to a fin­ish with delight­ful stripes and a burst of emo­tion in a bright orange.

Ports 1961 Spring 2012 | Milan Fashion Week

1961 To 2012–It was a les­son on geom­e­try at Ports 1961, where shape and struc­ture took top form. The sil­hou­ette was slim­ming and fit­ted with elon­gated double-​​breasted blaz­ers and sleeve­less trench coats of mod­ern and min­i­mal sen­si­bil­ity, while trousers came in var­i­ous cuts – tai­lored as well as loose. Trans­par­ent light­weight knits, crisp cot­ton blends and lus­trous silks were fea­tured in clin­i­cal white, beige, mid­night blue and graphic prints for an out­ing of lux­u­ri­ous fabrications.

Gucci Spring 2012 | Milan Fashion Week

Pag­ing Sir Gucci–Gucci cre­ative direc­tor Frida Gian­nini looks to infuse the glam­orous label with a dose of Eng­lish sen­si­bil­ity this sea­son. Main­tain­ing a somber color palette with a hint of cherry red, spring’s lineup looked to suit­ing dressed in Prince of Wales and other prints to set the tai­lored wear well. High­light­ing details, tapered trousers were treated to traces of color and tie details. Mean­while, Gucci’s acces­sories were a luxe high­light, offer­ing car­ryalls and leather loafers as the per­fect com­ple­ment to a range of shim­mer­ing evening jackets.

Z Zegna Spring 2012 | Milan Fashion Week

Z of Ele­gance–The washes of blue drifted out at Z Zegna in shades of navy, baby blue and slowly faded into a sea of white, cleans­ing the palette for what was yet to come. Gor­geous col­ors of mus­tard yel­low and earthy brown took over the fine selec­tion of tai­lored blaz­ers, light­weight knitwear and over­sized out­wears. Con­tin­u­ing a pop­u­lar trend this sea­son in Milan, the star of the show was the care­free sil­hou­ette of loose-​​fitting trousers, made even more ele­gant paired with the luxe inclu­sion of silk tuxedo jackets.

Salvatore Ferragamo Spring 2012 | Milan Fashion Week

Acres of Lux­ury–Although form and fit were relaxed at Sal­va­tore Fer­rag­amo, Mas­si­m­il­iano Giornetti’s strong sense of mas­culin­ity remained firmly intact. The show opened with a field of neu­tral beige, peach and white, slowly pro­gress­ing into suits of mid­night blue and ever­est green. The ease of col­oration tran­si­tioned into the loose and relaxed sil­hou­ette of util­i­tar­ian jack­ets with sub­tle zip­per detail­ing, chunky cardi­gans and care­free trousers. The dri­ving force of the col­lec­tion was the acres of ultra luxe fab­ri­ca­tions of linen, tex­tured knits and light­weight cot­ton, while frayed straw hats and casual espadrilles added the sig­na­ture finesse of the Italian-​​label.
