High Ambitions–Ready for new heights, designer Kean Etro looked to the mystical Pegasus as the starting point of his latest collection. Marrying the extravagant use of feathers to Etro’s signature prints, the rich affair brought forth quite the avid imagination. Beginning the show with eveningwear, monotone brocade gave way to not only richer prints, but feathers turned out as jackets, scarves, ties and other pieces. From the dark palette of gray and black to a sampling of the warm sun’s rays, Etro explored the color spectrum, even going as far as a fiery red. From overcoat and vest to shoes, the devil was in the details. Masterfully mixing prints and textures, the collection was presented with personality, depth and ultimately the fine qualities of the modern-day gentleman.

Fine & Dandy–Gucci creative director Frida Giannini looks to the nineteenth century for the inspiration of her latest collection. Mixing various references, Giannini arrived at what she refers to as Bohemian Grunge. If course with no expense spared, the Gucci man was sent on this path with the ideal trappings for a luxe fall season. The vision of smart simplicity, crewneck sweaters and modest jackets made for the perfect contemporary suiting statement while ornate floral prints created a tapestry of enrichment. Dressing pants and jackets for quite the sartorial debut, Gucci’s prints were just one of the season’s treasured motifs. Working with velvet, silk and brocade, the show was rounded out by a nod at aristocracy, crafting pleated trousers and fitted jackets for the ultimate season of luxury.

Sartorial Layering–Daniele Alessandrini looks to smart layering for the fall/winter 2012 season. Taking the twinset and reinterpreting it for outerwear, clever jackets remain light-weight but warm with a blanket lining. Subtly mixing prints, an autumn landscape contributes to the image of a man on the go with suiting and casualwear blending together for one cohesive wardrobe. From the strong field jacket to classics like the duffle coat, Daniele Alessandrini remains relevant for the modern man with an offering of tradition and trend.

Inducing Power–Staging a grand affair for the fall/winter 2012 season, Miuccia Prada looked to the power found in dress for the season’s inspiration. Featuring a star-studded cast that included actors Adrien Brody, Gary Oldman and Jamie Bell, the power of influence was in no short supply. Somber and constrained, striped numbers opened the show with Prada executing a degree of simplicity, sending out double-breasted coats, at times layered in pairs. Complete with pocket ornaments, the distinguished lineup branched out to familiar silhouettes of seasons past before taking a moment for the epitome of leisure. Cut like a fine dressing gown, the basis of elegance for the collection was reinforced and executed to the final look with a grand cast of characters.

The Collector–Positioning his man as a collector of beautiful things, Salvatore Ferragamo creative director Massimiliano Giornetti crafts a rich collection using a tapestry inspired by the urban landscape. Whether it is in the vibrant evening lights of blue and red or in the charcoal asphalt, Giornetti masters a strong color palette, creating a sharp wardrobe of suiting, outerwear and accessories. From intricate prints that entice to the smart double breasted blazer or the allure of velvet, Salvatore Ferragamo’s fall/winter 2012 collection finds impeccable lines and classicism at its best.

Total Look–Bottega Veneta creative director Tomas Maier aimed to complete a total look for this season’s collection. Examining proportions and fit from head to toe, the latest range came together as final products, a couple of steps removed from the initial inspiration source. Playing exquisitely with graphic shapes in this aspect, complementary colors melded together as abstract shapes dissected Maier’s alto familiar canvas. However, taking a step into the future, a little rebellion surfaced with treated finishes and a hint of leather, being pieced together for outerwear adornments and eventually the season’s standout trousers.
