Inducing Power–Staging a grand affair for the fall/winter 2012 season, Miuccia Prada looked to the power found in dress for the season’s inspiration. Featuring a star-studded cast that included actors Adrien Brody, Gary Oldman and Jamie Bell, the power of influence was in no short supply. Somber and constrained, striped numbers opened the show with Prada executing a degree of simplicity, sending out double-breasted coats, at times layered in pairs. Complete with pocket ornaments, the distinguished lineup branched out to familiar silhouettes of seasons past before taking a moment for the epitome of leisure. Cut like a fine dressing gown, the basis of elegance for the collection was reinforced and executed to the final look with a grand cast of characters.

New Era–Taking over the reigns of Trussardi, designer Umit Benan finds the season’s inspiration in British racing driver Jackie Stewart. Translating nostalgia into a contemporary collection, sharp dressing and a cool sentiment are married for individual pieces that steal a moment with ease. Bringing color to the forefront in rich autumn hues, a chic layering of shirting reveals luxe turtlenecks, fitted shirting with collars flipped and a return to the distinguished waistcoat as part of an impeccable suit.

The Missoni Way–With her family looking on, Angela Missoni sent her men down the catwalk with an easy air. Layered lightly for the season, subdued autumn colors contributed to relaxed outing, featuring a semi-fitted wardrobe of knitwear, shirting, and outerwear, executed with a subtle hand. The results of heritage at work, Missoni’s signature prints dressed an array of garments that encompassed a walk of leisure, complete with a laissez-faire attitude and bucket hats that gave a distinct feel to the season.

The Afterparty–Apparently the world is nearing the end of its course and temperatures our dropping, so if course Vivienne Westwood would be the perfect candidate to give her take on the situation. Mixing her signature brand of quirky with rather conservative instruments, the fall/winter 2012 outing bridges the gap between eccentric and accessible. While a timeless mode of dress is acquired by tailored suiting and outerwear in subdued tones, personality is delivered in spades when approaching the more elaborate garments. Playing with patterns and layering for an end of the world freeze, Westwood plays a charming hand, creating a world where the fur coated gentleman can co-exist with the pattern mixing deviant who boasts a penchant for off the cuff silhouettes.

One Step to Tomorrow–Pringle of Scotland designer Alistair Carr set his sights on an easy mode for the fall/winter 2012 season. Peppered with the occasional print, the collection became largely about those essential separates to survive the season, but with style. Mixing the label’s knack for knits with impressive outerwear, the range served as the perfect blueprint to the season. From oversize outerwear with minimalist detail to leather pants and a degree brash fashion, Pringle of Scotland’s fall 2012 collection enveloped the careful trendsetter with a remarkable restraint.

The Collector–Positioning his man as a collector of beautiful things, Salvatore Ferragamo creative director Massimiliano Giornetti crafts a rich collection using a tapestry inspired by the urban landscape.
