Valentino creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli tackled an unexpected element for spring-summer 2017. Inspired by an exhibition at the Met Breuer, entitled Unfinished: Thoughts Left Visible, the collection mirrored the theme of unfinished artwork. Toning down the color palette for the season, unfinished details ran the gamut with frayed threads and haphazard embellishments.

Continuing a military theme, camouflage jackets and coordinated ensembles fell in line. Sheer knits offered a soft contrast while also maintaining the collection’s camouflage flair. Monochromatic numbers also reigned with neutral separates that doubled as an understated uniform. Patching together various washes of denim, jackets and jeans showed a laid-back Valentino man.
